T-Mobile reveals the locations where it added more mid-band LTE capacity

T-Mobile is certainly not sitting on its laurels while it awaits regulatory approval for its proposed $26.5 billoion merger with Sprint. Today, T-Mobile CTO Neville Ray disseminated a tweet containing a list of cities and towns where the nation's third largest carrier recently added more mid-band capacity. According to the executive, "100s of sites were upgraded with more midband capacity in just the last two weeks and #WeWontStop! This is why we’ve had the fastest LTE network for 4 years!!"

Back in April, T-Mobile also added mid-band spectrum to hundreds of locations, raising its mid-band capacity in cities like Fort Lauderdale, and the Bronx. Today's announcement includes many of the same locations that received the additional spectrum in April.

Last year, T-Mobile won 31MHz of low-frequency 600MHz spectrum from an FCC auction, and could add plenty of 2.5GHz high-frequency spectrum that currently belongs to Sprint. T-Mobile plans on using both low and high-band airwaves when it builds out its 5G network.

The complete list of cities and towns receiving additional mid-band capacity from T-Mobile includes:

Still nothing in my area. All those fancy Superbowl commercials about how good their speed and coverage is, but their 2 bars of "LTE" yield less than a mbps.

North Idaho, where TMO just barely rolled out LTE recently. Verizon gets me 75-100 mbps, but none of the other carriers come close. 6 Verizon dealers here and not one TMO store.

I'd definitely would like to know what T-mobile's "mid-band" is...4, 12, 66, 71 or some other bands then?

Just got it answered by Neville from his Twitter...it'll be Band 2 and/or 4.

I don’t know what it is about T-Mobile but their coverage never seems to be as good as the big 3. I know they advertise how good their network is quite a bit, and it’s fast, but coverage is lacking. Even compared to Sprint, my friends with other carriers typically have better coverage/stronger signal. Their coverage maps need some work, too...I travel a lot and drop calls quite a bit and often find myself in a dead zone.
