Super Mario Run gets minor holiday-themed update with a handful of Christmas decorations

Nintendo today released the first update for Super Mario Run, and it isn't rolling out via the App Store, but in-game. The update doesn't bring any significant game content additions, but it's still a fun holiday-themed distraction for the latest mobile game sensation.

The update is available through Super Mario Run directly and brings a handful of Christmas decorations that you can use to make your corner of the Mushroom Kingdom look more festive. There are three time-limited items included with the update – a Mario Snow Globe and a Christmas Tree, both of which are huge and play the role of a centerpiece for your Kingdom, and a poinsettia flower pot that you can place anywhere on the grass. The snow inside the globe will flutter around if you touch it, while the Christmas tree simply lights up.

Although there is no new game content as such in this update, it's still nice to see Nintendo release some holiday-themed content for its latest smash hit. We wouldn't say this, or any minor update for that matter, warrants an always-on internet connection to play the game, but hey, it's at least something, right?
