Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 specs list leaks out revealing the Galaxy S24 processor features
Two of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S24 series phones are reportedly going to be powered by both Snapdragon and Exynos processors, but the US will only get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 variants across the line. That's why intrigue about the next best mobile processor from Qualcomm is running high and its specifications just leaked out ahead of the October 24th unveiling.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 specs: no more 32-bit!

First we learned that Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will come in a stronger processor core configuration than the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, while the new Adreno 750 GPU is expected to be 50% more powerful than the current Adreno 740 in the S23. The MSPowerUser leak breaks down the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3's 1+5+2 core configuration as follows:

  • 64-bit Architecture
  • Second generation 4nm process
  • 1 Qualcomm Kryo CPU Prime core, up to 3.3 GHz
  • 5 Performance cores, up to 3.2 GHz
  • 2 Efficiency cores, up to 2.3 GHz
  • Faster performance per clock count
  • Lower power consumption
  • 50% faster graphics
  • New Qualcomm X75 based modem with 10Gbps speeds

While the Galaxy's Gen 2 processor has one peak performance core, four midrange ones, and three everyday computing cores for the mundane tasks, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will reportedly arrive with 5 midrange cores which can be revved up to 3GHz+ high clock speeds. This would ensure more balanced distribution of power, but the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is built on the tried second-gen 4nm process, which would ensure stability as well.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 graphics: ray-tracing

As for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 GPU, here's the Adreno 750 specs breakdown:

  • Real-time Hardware-Accelerated Ray Tracing with Global Illumination
  • Support for Unreal Engine 5 Lumen Global Illumination and Reflections System
  • Snapdragon Game Super Resolution
  • Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0
  • Snapdragon Game Post Processing Accelerator
  • HDR gaming (10-bit color depth, Rec. 2020 color gamut)
  • Snapdragon Shadow Denoiser
  • API support: OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0 FP, Vulkan 1.3
  • Hardware-accelerated H.265, VP9, AV1 decoder
  • HDR Playback Codec support for HDR10+, HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision

According to the leaked Qualcomm materials, the "console-defying" graphics subsystem of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is "premium level" and uses Unreal Engine 5.2 to upscale cuts at up to 8K.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 new features: generative AI

Qualcomm also waxes poetic how Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be first to support "multi-modality generative AI models" and is in general very proud of the AI section of the chipset that it says is 98% faster than before and 40% more efficient, and we hope to see some demos tomorrow at the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 unveiling.

Qualcomm did a great job with its current Snapdragon 8-series flagship chipset, as all of the tests we did on phones that carry it can prove. It is fast, it's very frugal, and, above all, consistently stable under pressure and there is every reason to believe that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will build on that legacy.
