Qualcomm 215 chipset revealed for entry-level smartphones
Qualcomm is determined to compete with the likes of MediaTek and Samsung when it comes chipsets for budget-friendly smartphones. The US chipmaker has just announced a brand new mobile processor aimed at low-end phones, the 215.

The new Qualcomm 215 CPU offers 50% increased performance in comparison with the previous 2xx generation. More importantly, it's the first chipset for low-end smartphones that supports 64-bit architecture, which translates in performance boost and better device longevity.

The chipset features four ARM Cortex-A53 cores (up to 1.3GHz clock speed), a Qualcomm Adreno 308 GPU (graphics processing unit), and dual ISPs for dual-camera support. Qualcomm 215 supports up to 13-megapixel cameras, full HD (1080p) video capture, HD+ resolution display, dual SIM with dual VoLTE, NFC (Near Field Communications) Payments on Android, as well as Ultra HD Voice Calls.

On top of that, the chipset supports Qualcomm Quick Charge technology, which is designed to allow users to charge up to 75% faster than traditional charging technology.

According to Qualcomm, the first commercial devices based on the new chipset are expected to be available in the second half of 2019, so that's pretty soon. For the tech-savvy, the full list of specs is now available on Qualcomm's website.
