Deals slash $50-$150 off the Pixel 3a family with certain conditions
Heading into next week's Made by Google event, the best move made by the company this year was to release a mid-range version of the Pixel 3 series. Google cut some corners to make the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL much more affordable than its high-end models. For example, the phones feature a polycarbonate body, are powered by the Snapdragon 670 chipset and do not have an IP rating for protection from dust and water. They also have a single selfie camera in front instead of the two found on the Pixel 3 phones. But wisely, when it came to the rear camera and image processing, Google did not change a thing. Consumers interested in smartphone photography or in having the first crack at Android updates could pick up the Pixel 3a for $399.99 when the phone was first launched back in May.

Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL deal at Best Buy

With the upcoming Made by Google event expected to unveil the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, Best Buy is discounting the price of the Pixel 3a series. The big-box retailer is taking a whopping $100 or 25% off of the Pixel 3a. The only condition is that the phone be activated immediately through Verizon or AT&T with a new line or new account. Otherwise, with an upgrade, Verizon and AT&T subscribers can buy the unit for $349.99, a $50 or 13% price break. Sprint's deal is even better. With a new line or new account the phone is $249.99; using an upgrade, the price is $299.99. If you buy the phone and activate it later, Best Buy will charge you $349.99, still a $50 savings.

The Pixel 3a XL is also on sale at Best Buy. Normally $479.99, Verizon and AT&T customers can save $100 or 20.8% by buying the phone and activating it today using a new line or new account. With an upgrade, the price is $429.99 for Verizon and AT&T customers; that works out to a $50 or 10.4% savings. Once again, Sprint tops that deal by selling the phone for $329.99 ($150 off) with a new line or new account. With an upgrade, the price for Sprint customers is $379, a $100 savings. If you purchase the phone and activate it later, it will cost you $429.99, $50 off the usual Best Buy price.

Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL deal at B&H

New York City's B&H also has the two mid-range Pixels on sale. The Pixel 3a is $50 off at $349.99 and the Pixel 3a XL is $50 off at $429. If you buy either phone from B&H, the retailer will toss in a couple of freebies that it claims is worth $79.99. This includes a Mint Mobile 3-month pre-paid SIM card with 8GB of 4G LTE data per month, and a clear AVODA TPU Case for Google Pixel 3a or Pixel 3a XL.

Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL specs

The Pixel 3a carries a 5.6-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2220 and an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The Pixel 3a XL's AMOLED screen weighs in at 6-inches with a 1080 x 2160 resolution for an 18:9 aspect ratio. Both models are equipped with 4GB of memory and 64GB of storage. The battery in the smaller unit weighs in at 3000mAh while a 3700mAh battery keeps the lights on in the larger unit. Color options for both models include Just Black, Purple-ish and Clearly White. Both models are pre-installed with Android 10.

Once we get past next week's unveiling of the Pixel 4 family, you can expect retailers to continue dropping their prices for the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3 lines.
