Onkyo announces Android app that controls its networked Hi-Fi gear remotely
Turning a smartphone into a remote control is not that new of a concept, but we rarely get to see a major brand name materializing the idea and bringing it to the market. That is why Onkyo and its upcoming Android application deserve some attention, and boy what a remote control app this is shaping up to be.

The Japanese manufacturer of Hi-Fi gear has announced that its Android app will be compatible with all of its networked receivers released from 2011 onwards. As one would expect, the app will provide remote access to basic audio controls such as volume and tone levels, but it will also have a few other tricks up its sleeve.

For example, users will be able to stream music stored on their Android smartphone straight to their Onkyo network receiver. In addition, the app will let you browse and play content shared over a Wi-Fi network sparing you from the need to be in front of the TV in order to do that.

Onkyo's Android remote control app will be available on the Android Market in August and will be free of charge.
