OnePlus confirms fingerprint scanner for the OnePlus 2

OnePlus confirms fingerprint scanner for the OnePlus 2
Yesterday, we showed you exclusive photos of the front and back of the OnePlus 2. On the picture showing the rear of the phone, what appears to be a fingerprint scanner was seen under the flash. Today, OnePlus took to social media to tease a fingerprint scanner for the upcoming device. The new OnePlus 2 will be unveiled during via a VR event to be held on July 27th starting at 10pm EDT. OnePlus is dipping into its wallet to pay for the cardboard VR viewers that are being sent out to those requesting one.

The OnePlus 2 will feature a 5.5-inch to 5.7-inch screen. While we don't know whether the resolution will be FHD (1080 x 1920) or QHD (1440 x 2560), we do know that the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 810 SoC. This includes an octa-core CPU and the Adreno 430 GPU. OnePlus will be using the 2.1 version of the chipset, but this is the version that is still overheating on the Sony Xperia Z3+. The OnePlus 2 will also have the Type-C USB port. This allows users to plug in the cable with with either side of the plug up.

OnePlus says that it will initially use the controversial invitation system for the OnePlus 2, at least at first. OnePlus is using the invitations to balance supply and demand. It did say that there will be more invitations handed out, so hopefully we won't see the shortages that marred the launch of the OnePlus One last year.

Congrats on the Fingerprint scanner. Pathetic that the LG G4 didn't get one.

I'm still bothered about the fact they will use the SD810 though... seriously, can't they wait for the 820 to come out?

They seem rather confident that it'll perform well and cool with the optimization they've done with the chip. I'm not overly interested in the One Plus 2, but the phone I am looking forward to allegedly has the 810 as well, so we both just need to be hopeful that the OEMs have heard the consumer's concerns on the subject and put forth the effort to meet our expectations.

I was super excited for the OnePlus but the 810 is making me nervous about it (despite not wanting to be)... Then I saw the Lg rumors about a G4 pro or whatever that peaked my interest... Currently have an GS4 until August, so it looks like im going to be going up in size... not sure how i feel about that as well.

I've gotten to hold the Nexus 6 recently and I think it's perfectly fine, though it was not in a case so maybe my feelings might change after getting a larger phone and something to protect it. In the end it all comes down to personal preference. If you do go with the G4, that screen is going to blow your mind, especially coming from the S4, that bump in resolution actually makes a massive difference, especially which watching videos with a native 1440 resolution.

Is Type C backwards compatible with micro USB 2.0? Or all my portable battery packs, chargers etc. are now obsolete?

Nope, you will need an adapter sadly.

It is backwards compatible. You will need new cables though.

To me battery packs and USB type C being backword compatible seems like two different things. Charging wise it should be fine but slow, you can't insert previous port in to new type c port so as tyrion said you will need new cables, backward compatibility is about other things like connecting to computer and other devices (input/output).

The USB Type C will be what plugs into the phone. The other end of the cable is essentially the same as all the other USB plugs that you plug into a "regular" USB port. Here's some pics from another article from Phonearena: phonearena.com/news/Accessory-porn---the-OnePlus-Twos-USB-Type-C-cable-looks-smoking-in-red_id70783

"will also have the Type-C USB port. This allows users to plug in the cable with with either side of the plug up." I'm starting to think USB 3.1 only has one feature lol (iPhonearena please mention other things)

The cable also comes in red. Happy now?

Wonder what sort of scanner it is. With the streaks in that image it makes me think it might be a swipe type, which would probably be a mistake given how that sort of scanner has worked in past phones.

Just read the news on OnePlus Forum..It's touch based, Qualcom technology, and it's faster than TouchID on iPhone..
