The OnePlus 5 has finally arrived in our office and we are eager to learn all about it first hand.

First things first, though, let's see what's in the box and take a quick first look at the phone itself.

What we got is a white box with the number 5 etched on the front and the OnePlus logo delicately positioned at the top. On both sides of the box you can find printed the following: "Dual Camera. Clearer Photos." The OnePlus 5 is the first OnePlus phone with a dual rear camera, with the secondary one using a 'telephoto' lens that allows the phone to blur backgrounds and shoot great-looking portrait shots. On the bottom of the phone you can read the following: "Created together with our fans <3." This is part of the OnePlus 'Never Settle' marketing pitch: the company has a bunch of loyal fans and it values their comments.

Open the box, and you see the beautiful OnePlus 5 front and center. Let's see what else is...

In the box:
  • 'Dash Charge' wall charger (5V - 4A)
  • USB-C to USB-A red cable
  • User manual
  • Sim ejector

There are no headphones or anything else in the case.

Next, let's look at the phone. The initial impressions are very positive: the OnePlus 5 is slightly thinner and slightly narrower, with a more refined feel and gentler curves. It's a pleasure to hold. Yes, it looks like the iPhone 7 Plus, but not as much as those official pictures would have you think, the slightly curved back and that edge on the side give it some unique character.

We set up the phone and immediately notice just how instantenously it responds to every command. Every tap yields an immediate response, the fingerprint scanner is lightning fast and you can definitely tell that this is a top-notch performer. For now, this is all we can tell you, though. We start our journey with the OnePlus 5 right away by taking it on a walk downtown to compare its camera against others, and we'll keep you updated as we get our review ready. Stay tuned!
