Latest Motorola One Zoom renders reveal unique light-up rear logo

Motorola hasn't yet announced plans for an IFA 2019 press conference but the consensus is that its first quadruple-camera smartphone, the Motorola One Zoom, will be announced at the event. This particular device has already leaked extensively both in terms of design and specifications, but the newest press renders reveal a rather unique feature.

Courtesy of Roland Quandt, the latest batch of leaked press renders showcase Motorola's upcoming device in both purple and gray. The images corroborate the presence of a rather larger camera module on the rear which houses an impressive four rear cameras and the brand's iconic batwing logo. Typically, the latter contains a fingerprint scanner but in this particular case Motorola has opted for an in-screen solution, therefore leaving an empty space beneath the 'M.'

Before today, the expectation was that Motorola's next camera-centric smartphone would include a regular logo on the rear with no hidden features, much like the Moto Z4. But as revealed by today's images, the Chicago-based company has actually implemented an LED backlight beneath it. That way, the logo on the purple model lights up pink, the gray model features a blue one, and the incoming gold version should feature a yellow alternative.

It's unclear at this stage if Motorola has anything planned for the light-up logo but the leaked renders show it both activated and switched off. This would suggest that, perhaps, it will act as a notification light and, therefore, replace the LED that's no longer present on the front. A separate option that permanently illuminates the logo whenever the display is turned on could also be provided.

A cool logo isn't the only thing Motorola's One Zoom offers

The One Zoom, as mentioned above, features a total of four cameras on the rear. This setup, which gives the smartphone its name, is led by a primary 48-megapixel snapper that's understood to be identical to the one found on the Motorola One Vision. It uses quad-pixel technology to combine four pixels into one and ultimately produce a 12-megapixel photo with more detail and contrast. This sensor will reportedly support optical image stabilization and an f/1.7 aperture.

Joining the primary camera looks set to be a super-wide-angle camera that'll do exactly what it says on the tin by supporting a 117º field of view. If it's anything like the one expected on the Motorola One Action, it'll likely be marketed as an 'Action Cam.' Completing the setup will be a dedicated 5-megapixel depth sensor and a new telephoto camera that'll apparently support 5x hybrid zoom by combining optical zoom with the data captured by the other cameras.

Moving away from the camera department, the Motorola One Zoom looks set to debut with a 6.2-inch notched AMOLED display complete with a FHD+ (2340 x 1080p) resolution and support for HDR content. Reports suggest this will be paired with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 675 and a minimum of 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, although a variant with twice the storage and 6GB of RAM will be available too.

Motorola One Zoom announcement, release date, pricing

The Motorola One Zoom will likely be announced in early September alongside the Motorola One Action and a budget One-branded smartphone. The version pictured today is an Amazon Exclusive which ships with Alexa pre-installed and a number of the online retailer's other apps. According to Roland Quandt, it'll retail at €399 in Europe, although an Android One version without any Amazon bloatware will be available for €429.

It's unclear at this stage if Motorola has plans to release the smartphone in the US, but if it does so retail price tags of $399 and $429 for the Amazon and non-Amazon variants are likely. Regarding shipments, the device will likely be made available to purchase by mid-September or later September at the latest.
