Motorola DROID RAZR HD and Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD coming in October?

Motorola DROID RAZR HD and Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD coming in October?
Time to get your salt shaker because we have some juicy speculation to tell you about. A source characterized as being reliable for Hot Hardware is telling the site that the eagerly awaited Motorola DROID RAZR HD will be launched in October. And if that isn't enough, the same source says that the device will be accompanied by the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD. This is big news for Motorola and Verizon because the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX with its 3300mAh battery has been a huge hit with some reports saying that the unit outsold the Apple iPhone 4S for Big Red during the second quarter.

According to the FCC filing for the Motorola DROID RAZR HD, the device will have a 2530mAh battery which would seem to be large enough not to require a "MAXX" variant of the phone. Either the speculation is all wrong and there won't be a Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD or else there will be a variant with a larger capacity battery greater than 3300mAh.

Assuming that there will be a Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD, it should match the specs on the DROID RAZR HD except with the larger battery and a slightly thicker footprint. The latest speculation calls for both devices to have a display with resolution of 720 x 1280, a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 under the hood (most likely the MSM8960) and Android 4.0.4 installed out of the box.

Considering that an October launch would lead the new handsets right into competition with the next iteration of the Apple iPhone, you might want to start shaking that salt now.

Solid phone and it's good that Moto is releasing the MAXX at the same time as the regular. My biggest issue is that the back is extremely ugly. The Atrix HD looks 100x better.

i'm more inclined to believe that the one with the V shaped Kevlar Pattern is the real one being that it actually has the Verizon Branding and maybe this is the MAXX HD but an extra 770mAh really isn't enough to warrant the production of another handset so if the MAXX HD is real it would need a good enough bump to justify like 4000mAh+ and this doesn't seem to be thicker than the V shaped variant we've seen so this could possibly be the International Variant and we haven't seen the MAXX HD yet IF it's even real so yeah, i'm really shaking my salt shaker on this one and no, i'm not talking about in the way that Lil Jon means in his song. xD

I agree completely. THis Maxx idea is a bit silly. Unless the battery is HUGE then I'm not sure they would even need a Maxx. The difference in mAhs between ~2500 and 3300 is almost negligible. It's all fodder for the rumor mill.

It's a 30% bump. That's not significant? I'd take the extra 30% any day.

of course you would but for Motorola is senseless to launch a phone just to have a 30% increase in battery life over the Razr HD.

"The difference in mAhs between ~2500 and 3300 is almost negligible." I just don't know what to say...

"The difference in mAhs between ~2500 and 3300 is almost negligible" - Could please explain it ? I've little knowledge about battery mAh matter.

HAHAHA.... man, i like the way you think lol.....The razr maxx hd here does not seem like it is real...I think the Razr HD is more a real phone than the maxx hd..... the design looks good to me as well....Hope to see more of this phone as im not counting on the Razr Maxx to manifest it self unless there is something really special about it like the S4 pro and 3500 mAh or like you said 4000 mAh (although i dont think that much battery is going to be seen anytime soon) but the maxx is definitely out the question to me...

yeah but you never know. Motorola really has been on the ball with power saving techniques and manufacturing slimmer batteries with more juice so maybe they do have something in the bag for us that we wouldn't think was possible before but to be on the safe side let's let the MAXX HD retain it's secrecy until there's something less ridiculous and more solid about it.

17. XPERIA-KNIGHT unregistered

sounds like gossip to be honest with ya....but you never know......To me its kinda like one of the post below said....Why dont they concentrate on making one complete device? And that device should be the Razr HD.....It just seems more like a logical and real phone than the Razr Maxx HD would be....It would almost make no sense at all to release that phone with out the s4 pro and other stuff like that......So once again this sounds like gossip

yeah, at this point i completely agree with you but i can have an open mind about this. if they want to keep the MAXX option alive it very well better be worth it.

25. XPERIA-KNIGHT unregistered

ya know what man? you know like I know, that if they do decide to release the Maxx HD it would catch about as much attention as the iphone 5 is getting! And that means its going to blow up in sales given the fact that the original Maxx was very successful in sales it would only make sense that this one would be too.....To me, they could leave the Maxx HD with the SAME battery (3300 mAh) and still give it the S4 pro and the device will be the best thing since sliced bread......Know what im saying?

yeah, especially if the iPhone will in fact have a tiny battery despite it's LTE connectivity. it'll be the same as the 4S and the MAXX but on a larger magnitude. Motorola is hitting everybody where it hurts.

30. XPERIA-KNIGHT unregistered

man you got me thinking about concentration on one phone i mentioned in that post above.....think about this for a second, we already said that the Razr Maxx HD would literally blow up right? Well think about this MOTOROLA DROID RAZR MAXX HD 4.6-4.7 inch display 8 or 12 mp camera (prolly 8) Quad Core S4 Pro adreno 320 (or even adreno 225 would be good) 3300 mAH battery

Me either, but its motorola... and the initial rumors were that it would feature a 13MP camera (of course, MP don't mean anything, expecially on a Moto cam) so I am thinking that might be a posibility. And why are they keeping the Razr name if the original has already been beaten my mulitple devices (notably the One S) and the device is said to be thicker? Seems strange.

70. g2a5b0e unregistered

Actually, no. The One S is HTC's thinnest phone, but it's not thinner than the Razr. One S = 7.8mm. Razr = 7.1 mm. The world's current thinnest smartphone is the Oppo Finder at 6.65mm, however, ZTE is releasing the Athena soon which is supposed to 6.2mm. The naming is more for marketing purposes than anything else. Motorola doesn't care whether or not it's really the world's thinnest smartphone. The point of the name was to capitalize on the popularity of the old flip phone Razr. Brand recognition goes a long way. Being able to call it the world's thinnest smartphone at the time was just an added perk.

what you should do is look up reviews for the Chinese Variants of the Razr that have the 13MP Sensors. i would imagine that they're not a far cry from what we should expect from the Razr HD. like g2a5b0e pointed out the Razr is still the thinnest phone in the states but as far as the HD goes i guess that's why Moto opted for the 2530mAh for the Razr HD because they can probably make it thinner than the other phones in it's class with that size of battery.

There haven't been any reports of a Maxx variant, but it would make sense. The original Droid RAZR had a battery of 1780mAh, and the Maxx had 3300. So if they make the battery proportionally larger, with a battery of 2530 for the HD the Maxx variant should have a battery of roughly 4600 mAh, crushing every battery put inside any phone ever. Including phablets.

65. g2a5b0e unregistered

Yeah, but that's not gonna happen in actuality. Most 7" tablets have batteries in the 4,000mAH range. If they really end up doing a Maxx version, the battery will definitely be less than that.

that even beats the Battery in my Xyboard and it lasts almost two days with an OMAP4 and a 720p Display. o:

I kinda like this phone, but the GPU is still not known! It should be near nuff the iPhone4s gpu, then yes®

Too bad it will have a locked/encrypted bootloader and low modding community for custom ROMs. While I know that there are work arounds, it still doesn't compensate for a totally unlocked bootloader like the Samsung GN. If I were into stock phones though, I'd definitely pick the Droid HD Maxx over any other phone currently on the market, though we'll have to see what else is out when/if this comes out.

we might see this thing come with an unlocked Bootloader if the Photon Q is any indication.

It would be fine if they released another MAXX, just as long as they release it at the same time. A lot of Razr owners were pretty angry that Moto came out with the exact same phone they bought earlier, just with a huge battery. Maybe they will use close to a 3800 mAh battery this time? I was really hoping Moto would use the OMAP5 instead of the S4 to be sort of different, but it looks like they are using the S4 after all. The only thing I can possibly look forward to now is that maybe they'll use the S4 Pro with that Adreno 320 GPU, if not, then I'll probably be looking the other way and lean towards the next Nexus.

yeah, if they differentiate the Razr HD and the MAXX HD the same way they did the Razr and the MAXX by making the Razr the slimmer, more attractive and personal option with the different color variants and the MAXX being a pure productivity powerhouse with no frills but this time launching them at the same time should make this a solid launch but if they're coming in October i'd kind of want more on the power front in the form of either an S4 Pro (which i'm still iffy about it coming this year) or an OMAP5 and even if they did i'd wait to check out the Nexus which would work out perfect because i'd want these to have a little bit of time to devalue because i'm not in such a hurry to upgrade from my Razr thus meaning i don't want to spend too much for a Razr HD upgrade.

What's the point of having a battery if you can't take it out and replace it with a different one? Plus its takes VERY long to charge the RAZR I'm not hatting I loved my razr but that's why I switched to the GalaxyS3
