Moto Z Play to get Android 7.1.1 Nougat update, though Motorola doesn't know when

Last month, Motorola diligently brought the Moto Z Play to Android 7.0 Nougat. The update included an enhanced version of Doze Mode to help extend battery life, in addition to multi-window capabilities, customized quick settings menu, and a "clear all" button to close all open apps with a single tap – among many other fixes and improvements contained in Nougat.

Android 7.0 isn't the end of the road for the Moto Z Play, however. Chatting with customer support, an XDA forums user asked when the Z Play is getting Android 7.1.1. The Motorola representative confirmed that an update is in the works, but isn't in on the date. There's always the chance that the rep was misinformed, but really, Moto has no reason to withhold further updates for this model or the Moto Z.

We can't be sure about its plans for Android O, though. But Nougat isn't a bad Android version to be stuck on, anyway, and for those feeling brave, the custom ROM scene is still going strong. So chances are Moto Z Play users won't suffer too much if they don't get to jump ship to Android O this or next year.
