Latest commercial for the Apple iPhone 7 Plus focuses on Portrait mode

Portrait mode is the focus of the latest television ad for the Apple iPhone 7 Plus. With Portrait mode, you can take advantage of the extra camera on the back of the handset to take photos with a depth-of-field effect. This allows you to blur the background, helping you create professional looking portraits.

The new commercial is titled "Take mine," which is a perfect name for it as you'll see when you watch the 60-second spot. In the ad, a young girl returns to visit family in the old country. She starts taking portraits of her relatives with her iPhone 7 Plus. And as word gets around, everyone in the town wants her to snap their portrait.

As you look at the portraits, you see that they all have the blurred background created by the depth-of-field capabilities on the iPhone 7 Plus. And that leaves us to draw the following conclusions. The Portrait mode on the iPhone 7 Plus does create exquisite portraits. And in some parts of the world, owning a smartphone makes you very popular.

Yea, it has been for several years now. Too bad the iPhone 7 still can't beat the software versions of the feature or else it could be considered for this feature. Maybe when it finally gets out of beta.

I hve not seen any app or phone do results like iPhone, in real time. Even after processing apps don't do so well.

from the pictures I've seen, the is no difference between the 2 ways... and even if it's slightly better - it should be it's 2017 now and that feature has been around for years and years now.

Real time WYSIWYG and post processing (and touching up manually) are completely different animal.

and what's more important? WYSIWYG or better image result?

iPhones portrait mode is really really good - and it does it in real time. I played with software you can edit photos after you taken them - it's too much work and it requires that you manual adjust areas. Apples version is a better result and no manual labor. You pick! What I meant with WYSIWYG is that you see result as you're taking the photo - not take a photo then edit in some app later. That makes it a different animal and makes the experience better - allowing you to airdrop images to everyone instantly. And they're still updating the software with every new update it's getting better.

I agree with you. People will think "Apple did this first. Android OEMs must be copying it by now".

"And that leaves us to draw the following conclusions. The Portrait mode on the iPhone 7 Plus does create exquisite portraits." of course you would say that lol " And in some parts of the world, owning a smartphone makes you very popular." no it doesn't everyone has a smartphone these days even in Africa. My point is even if your smartphone is an iPhone 7 plus no one cares.

Samsung have Selective Focus when S5 was released in 2014. Apple dual lens has done nothing to improve it.
