LG G2 reportedly will receive Android 5.1.1 within the next two months

According to an anonymous insider who works at LG's software development division, Android 5.1.1 will be rolling out to the LG G2 some time during the next two months. The update will not only bring the latest build of Android to the phone, it also will update the UI to LG UX 4.0 and add features currently available on LG's latest flagship model, the LG G4.

While no specific date was mentioned for the update, Android 5.1.1 is expected to start rolling out some time in the next two months. Carrier branded versions will have to wait for testing to be done and some carriers do take longer than others to complete this process.

LG G2 owners have had to watch their phone grow old gracefully while getting replaced by first the LG G3, and then by the LG G4. With this update, the old boy will be rejuvenated, capable of doing things that it couldn't do even when it was younger.

Aw poor Mxy can't give it up can you. Your choice is demonstrably not the best - hardware or software - so you troll to make yourself feel better. What a tedious little person you must be.

Lol I'm sorry Mimas, not really, but did I hurt your feelings because I gave my opinion? The G line of phones aren't all that great overall.

Your opinion is invalid.

I agree. I pretty much buy all flagships phones these days, and I felt like an iSheep lining up in Singapore back in Sept 2013 when it came out. TBH I still rate it as one of the best, if not still one of the best Android phones of all time. Beautiful, sleek, awesome on battery and great camera. I wish to god I didn't trade it in for the G3.. Sold that for the Sony Z3, and then Samsung S6. I still to date, miss the G2. Thinking about buying another if I can if someone on this earth has a new one

The major let downs of the G3 - 1. Battery life, and 2. the screen. The rest of the phone was premium, but I could not get more than 3.5hrs screen on, and that was running the backlight at very low. The G3 camera is top notch, but to be honest I would rather have held onto the G2. Only advantage of the G3 is microSD expansion.

Also, just while I'm here, PA reviews average from the iphone OG up to the 6+ is 8.86. G series average out at just over 9. My favourite series might not be bigger than yours, but the numbers say that it's better.

Yeah so? Sales numbers say a different thing.

Best selling things are always mediocre. Cars, clothes, the iPhone.

I'd say the G2 still was the best of the G series, although it didn't really sell well enough. I'm glad LG decided to update this beast.

What G2 getting 5.1.1 update? This is one more reason in favour to go with last year's flagship than to buy today's midranger. I have a gs4 and it has received 5.0.1 update much before than even later models like note 3 and note 4. If Samsung can just match the level of support by LG and release a usable 5.1.1 update then I'll definitely stick with Samsung for my next upgrade

Other than the low light camera performance, my old G2 was damn near flawless. My current G4 is pretty killer but I miss the form of the G2.

do you think this means that the G2 will not get the Android M update near its release date?

Here in Brazil the D805 model is still on 4.4.2. Terrible.

Be happy. 5.0.2 update is not fairing so well. And once you update you can't go back without rooting.

I still have the G2 as a backup phone. It's still a awesome device. Battery life is exceptional, display is vibrant. It was a great phone.

I think the G2 is the most complete phone to date when thinking of specs and performance, including that battery life. The ONLY letdown which is the 32GB memory with no option of sd slot.

I love my G2 - it's the perfect size, has beautiful large screen, small bezels, good battery life. I don't even need the software update, I'm very satisfied with it as it is.
