Intel to throw in the towel on MeeGo, another one bites the dust
After webOS got on the backburner, now MeeGo is receiving a fatal blow with Intel freezing its development efforts citing lack of partner interest. When Nokia announced it will go the Windows Phone way, Intel vouched to keep MeeGo thriving on its own, but the market obviously had other intentions.

Nokia N9, running MeeGo Harmattan, is actually a quite innovative handset, which proves the potential of MeeGo, but in the cutthroat mobile industry there is just very little space for more operating systems. Android, iOS and Windows Phone are the triad that analysts say will take over, with Samsung's bada OS and RIM having their special places as well.

Intel will focus on what it does best, instead, and its mobile hardware platforms are likely to appear in Android and Windows Phone device flavors, rather than MeeGo.

Heard LG was interested. Guess not. The N9 was very well recieved. Hard to find anything in the OS market described as "innovative" anymore. Will always kinda wonder if we missed out on the best mobile experiences with WeBOS and MeeGo dying off, MeeGo without even having a chance. If RIM misses the mark on QNX, wonder if Intel would pitch it to em?

The N9 was very innovative. Sad that the OS on the n9 will be dead. Nokia should get a version of the N9 with Symbian belle as well, and maybe on with bada if they can license it, which of course they won't ; )

Sad that MeeGo goes this way, i kinda liked meego...

:( I was planning on buying the Asus EEE PC x101 when it comes out. This is sad news. That was the cutest OS I have ever seen.

Anyone who buys the N9 will be wasting their time...and money. They will get ZERO support for it.

Nokia support Window Phone 7, because they have to follow what that Trojan Horse ( Elop ) says. You all see who is destroying Nokia??? The answer is the Trojan Horse @ Stephen Elop @ Window Ex-Employee. If that guy is not in Nokia, Nokia is now using MeeGo..
