Honor Magic 2 hands-on video, specs, and colors surface online

We recently managed to get a rather good look at the front of the upcoming Honor Magic 2. It's an interesting phone, this one, with its truly bezel-less design (save for a tiny chin), no notch, and a sliding screen. The Magic 2 looks so good in pictures, in fact, one might wonder how is this design not coming to a Huawei P-series or a Mate device first? But here we are, it's the Honor Magic 2, and we now have two hands-on videos of the device in action.

First surfaced on SlashLeaks, the two short videos focus mainly on the Honor Magic 2's sliding screen, which when pushed down reveals the front-facing cameras and earpiece. We also get a brief glimpse at the back of the phone, which is quite reminiscent to that of the Huawei P20 Pro, complete with a sleek, gradient finish and a vertically oriented triple camera setup.

The second clip (below) seems to be from an early TikTok promotional video for the Honor Magic 2. It revolves around a young man who's holding two phones and does a little percussive number by sliding their screens and tapping the devices on a table. It's sort of like a (more) bizarre version of the cup song with a lot of clicking involved. And though it doesn't provide much meaningful information about the Magic 2, the video gives us a side glimpse at the blue and red color options of the phone.

Speaking of colors, another recent SlashLeaks post shows off said color variants in their full glory. The Honor Magic 2 will come in blue, black, and red, though these won't be solid shades, but rather gradient paint jobs like what we've seen on the Huawei P20 Pro and the Mate 20 more recently. None of the leaked images show off the black version, though from what we were able to glean from the short hands-on video of the phone, it's going to have a slight metallic gleam to it, depending on the angle of view.

Leaving design and colors aside, yet another leak (yes, there's no end!) reveals many of the specs of the Honor Magic 2. Thanks to a specs sheet that surfaced online recently, we know that the Honor Magic 2 will run Android 9.0 Pie out of the box, with Huawei's EMUI proprietary skin on top, and will come in two storage options – 128GB and 256GB. There won't be an SD card expansion slot by the looks of it.

Another thing of note is that the Honor Magic 2 will likely be powered by the Kirin 980 — the same chipset at the heart of the Huawei Mate 20 — backed by either 6GB or 8GB of RAM (depending on the model) and a 3,400mAh battery. It's safe to say that it won't be a slouch, though battery life may not be exceptional.

According to the leaked specs sheet, the phone sports a sizable 6.4-inch display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080. As far as screen-to-body ratio goes, this one should be nearly 100%. Around the back, the triple camera setup offers two wide-angle shooters — with 16MP and 24MP color and monochrome sensors, respectively — and a 16MP telephoto snapper for lossless zoom. The front-facing camera has a 16MP resolution and is accompanied by two other lenses, which are said to be relegated solely to 3D face scanning and unlocking.

Another interesting detail that the latest leak reveals is the lack of a traditional fingerprint scanner on the Honor Magic 2. There isn't one on the back of the phone, and there definitely isn't one housed in the almost non-existent bottom bezel. This either means that there won't be one at all, and the phone will rely entirely on 3D face unlock, or that it will be of the in-display variety.
