HTC Desire to get served Froyo on June 23rd?
In one of those convoluted messages that goes back and forth and in the end means very little, the owner of an HTC Desire was calling HTC customer service about the lack of storage space for his installed apps on his phone. The rep said that there was not much he could do to help, but then added that a new update was coming out on June 23rd when apps will be able to be stored on microSD cards. The rep apparently told the caller that, "You never heard this from me". Why all of the cloak and dagger? Because the conversation is obviously about a Top Secret launch date for Android 2.2 on the Desire. Of course, we would not consider this date to be the most solid info, but think of it instead as a time frame to keep an eye on. And the Android 2.2 update could even have an effect on smartphone sales around the globe as those considering the purchase of an Android model need to decide whether they want Sense UI or MOTOBLUR, which will probably delay Froyo and future Android upgrades, or stick with units running stock Android which quickens the time needed to upgrade the phone. And you Motorola DROID owners standing there in the corner, do you consider June 23rd to be "in the near future" which is when Motorola said that its' current flagship model was going to get the upgrade?

This is bull in its most glorified form... it took months for HTC to be able to get its 2.1 available for its 2 available sense models the Hero and Eris(before the launch of the desire and incredible) so I highly doubt that with in weeks HTC would readily have a custom interface available. Another red flag is the fact that the Evo is going to be a flagship device of 2 companies (sprint and HTC) and the 4g connectivity isn't going to be stable white running on 2.1 due to code limitations (2.1 was written before 4g phones materialized... with that said wouldn't that warrant froyo to come to the Evo first... and with that date so close there would be a buzz for which ever sense phone gets updated first?

Being that Motoblur was mentioned in this article, i'll go off topic. I hope Motoblur is updated soon for my Cliq XT. 2.1 would be great right about now. I want my "gesture search" and my "google nav" back. Waiting to buy the next android handset till the market stabilizes is pointless. You'll wait forever cus it moves so fast. I bought my XT 4 weeks ago when my G1 died and it's so horribly outdated it's not funny. It launched already ready for retirement. We might get 2.1 someday, but 2.2 is already announced to stop the fragmentation, so Motoblur 2.1 users will be screwed. Which is fine, I can wait another 11 months before I get another phone at partial discount, or get a Motoroi off ebay when they finally launch. Although I did buy the XT thinking, "This is a purchase I'm ok with, it's getting 2.1 soon." so definitely the knowledge of an impending update plays in on someones decision to purchase. Ok...Random thought generation over.

First of all, HTC them selves told us that the Desire and Incredible are the first phones getting FroYo. After that, all the other 2010 released phones, including the Evo 4G. Remember, the Desire is being sold sold in entire Europe on many carriers, while the Evo is only being sold to people on Sprint in the US (I think the evo is an experiment for HTC, but whatever its a beast) Second, we were promised 'full flash' in H1 of 2010 for the Desire, both by HTC and Adobe. Third, I am sure that HTC will bring Froyo fast. They can, if they want. All the slow updates for the hero for example, had reasons. One oefbthem being getting more people to choose the Legend. But the Desire is probably going to be one of the biggest succes HTC has had, because of the performance/price. Hell, the Desire is probably one of the biggest enemies of the iPhone. So HTC will do their best to bring Froyo, fast.
