Google posts Android 5.1.1 factory image for the Nexus Player

The cycle is starting over as Google has posted the Android 5.1.1 factory image for the Nexus Player. Android users have been eagerly looking forward to the update since it is supposed to correct a serious issue that has caused a memory leak on Android devices. Using the factory image, a Nexus device that has been customized can be quickly returned to the latest stock version of Android.

While only the Nexus Player has received the Android 5.1.1 factory image at present, we should see other Nexus models start receiving the new factory image with an OTA update eventually being disseminated to Nexus owners and owners of stock Android powered Google Play edition handsets. The new build number is LMY47V.

The Asus built Nexus Player was announced last October. The media player and game console uses HDMI connectivity to connect to your television set. The device is powered by a quad-core 1.8GHz Intel Atom CPU with the PowerVR series 6 GPU inside. 1GB of RAM is onboard along with 8GB of storage. Users can stream content from a selection of Google's own services like YouTube and Google Play Movies, and also from other streamers like Hulu, Netflix and Pandora.
