Google Assistant to gain nearly full control over Spotify playback in the coming weeks
The Google Assistant is about to become a lot more useful - especially for die-hard Spotify users.
One of the more popular streaming services and the Google Assistant are set to work much better with one another from now on thanks to a just-announced improvement of the integration between the two services. Spotify users will very soon be able to interact with the service right through their Google Assistant, just like the lot of Google Home users have been able to do. The best part is that you will be able to control Spotify playback on any connected device with your voice, which should be great news for, say, Chromecast aficionados.
Here are a few example commands that users will be able to issue:
- “Ok Google, play Spotify”
- “Ok Google, play Discover Weekly”
- “Ok Google, play Today’s Top Hits on my Chromecast”
The improved integration will hit both free and premium users of Spotify. The full integration will be rolling out in waves and will arrive for all users globally in the coming weeks and months. Have in mind that you will have to set the Spotify app as your default music player in the Google Assistant's settings. You will also have to link your account so that the Assistant gains access to your music library.
