Sony Xperia XZ2 pre-orders start today overseas; reserve a unit and get a free PS4 or PlayStation VR
Just yesterday, we unboxed the Sony Xperia XZ2 for you. Starting today, pre-orders are being accepted overseas for both the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact. At both Carphone Warehouse and European carrier Three, those making a paid reservation for one of the two new models will have a big choice to make. Sony is tossing in a free PS4 gaming console and the Gran Turismo Sport bundle. Or, as an alternative, those who pre-order one of the two new handsets can opt to receive a free PlayStation VR Starter Pack instead.

The SIM-free Xperia XZ2 is priced at £699 ($974 USD), while the XZ2 Compact will set you back £549 ($765 USD). The former carries a 5.7-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 2160. That works out to an aspect ratio of 18:9. The screen uses the company's Bravia TV screen technology. The Snapdragon 845 mobile platform is under the hood, and the unit is packed with 4GB of RAM along with 64GB of expandable storage. The camera combo, from back to front, weighs in at 19MP and 5MP, respectively. This is the first smartphone to offer 4K HDR video recording. Keeping the lights on is a 3180mAh battery, and the phone does support wireless charging. It also features an IP68 certification rating, and is pre-installed with Android Oreo. The device is available in Blue, Black or Silver.

The Xperia XZ2 Compact has only a few differences between it and the full-sized XZ2. There is the smaller 5-inch screen (still 1080 x 2160), and a smaller 2870mAh battery.

With the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ launching today, Sony is trying to attract game players with the freebies. Sony's U.S. website doesn't allow for pre-orders at this time, so if you are interested in the Xperia XZ2 or XZ2 Compact, you should click on the Three or Carphone Warehouse sourcelink below.
