Exynos powered variant of Samsung Galaxy A8 now available in India
Priced at the equivalent of $508 USD, the Samsung Galaxy A8 is now on sale in India. That is a pretty hefty price tag for the region, so what exactly are consumers in India getting for their money? The Galaxy A8 is equipped with a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED screen that carries a 1080 x 1920 resolution. That works out to a pixel density of 386ppi. Under the hood is the Exynos 5430 SoC. The big LITTLE octa-core CPU brings 4 cores of 1.8GHz Cortex-A15 and 4 cores of 1.3GHz Cortex-A7. Handling graphics is the Mali-T628 MP6 GPU. 2GB of RAM is inside, along with 32GB of expandable storage.

The thinnest phone produced by Samsung to date at 5.9mm, the Galaxy A8 features a 16MP rear-facing camera with an aperture of f/1.9. That will allow users to snap quality pictures even under less than optimal lighting conditions. The 5MP shooter in front can snap selfies and handle video chats using a 120 degree wide-angle lens. A 3050mAh battery keeps the generator humming, and Android 5.1 is pre-installed.

Besides having a thin footprint, the Galaxy A8 sports very thin side bezels. And we would be remiss if we didn't point out that the version of the phone that previously launched in Asia last month was a different variant. That model was powered by the Snapdragon 615 chipset, with an octa-core 1.5GHz CPU and the Adreno 405 GPU.

The phone is available in black, white and gold and supports 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS connectivity. If you're an Airtel customer, the carrier will double your data for free with the purchase of this handset.

Thanks for the tip!

It makes you wonder if Motorola can price the moto style at $400, why the heck is Samsung pricing this phone with less specs and probably no future updates at $508

The cost of that price for Motorola is the limit in available countries. Motorola is unable to sell it globally and mainly in the home country only. $500 is not a bad price for that phone in Asia: a strong hardware (Exynos 5430 is significantly better than Snapdragon 801), touch finger print sensor, good camera, good design without plastic and the most important, a reliable brand with very good customer service.

You've got to be kidding me... This is not good... This is absolutely crap This thing at max should cost 350-375$... The Exynos 5430 barely overtakes the Snapdragon 615 not the 800 Plus the note 3 which is a former flagship has a variant with the same soc as this and is a much better device overall, is better supported by Samsung and developers and is MUCH CHEAPER than this metal overpriced heap of junk

The Exynos 5430 is about on par with SN 801. I saw a video on YouTube and it scores about 45000.

It's a little slower than SN 801 but definitely faster than Snapdragon 615 so the Exynos version is the version to go for. Not sure why anyone would moan about them releasing a version of the Galaxy A8 with a their own faster SoC, some people are very strange.

Pretty sure that SD801 is a pretty slow SoC for high-res displays. Like its sucessor SD805.

This is Samsung estore prices for an early launch. If you don't know about Samsung prices, don't bark like a mad dog. This phone will be available with local retailers shortly for lesser price. And if you wait 2 months, the price will be 30% less. Happens with all Samsung phones. S6 is already much cheaper than when it was at release. Moto phones have same rate all throughout the year. Samsung phones start high and gradually reduce price. After 3 months, it will come to a stable state. Learn how companies prices their devices before you shout.

If end consumers have to wait two months for the prices to be affordable, that says a lot about OEM's pricing. The reason for the plummeting prices of Samsung phones is, most of the people refrain from buying due to the exorbitant pricing. Samsung makes good high-end phones, but overestimates their saleability.

Do a research yourself pls. Exynos 5430 IS better than Snapdragon 801 and way better than Snapdragon 615 (which on par with S600 in the ancient Galaxy S4)http://m.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_alpha-review-1118p6.php And E5430 is 20nm, 801 is 28nm.

You have no idea what exynos 5430 is..antutu benchmark shows galaxy alpha(5430) slightly better than galaxy note 4(5433).

Even Exynos 5420 overtakes SD801, I don't even speak about 5430.

This is cheaper than the Motorola X Style in India, not by a lot but it's still cheaper Rs 32,500 for the Galaxy A8 Rs 36,000 for the Motorola X Style Maybe consider the prices of competing products in the country of release from which the prices are converted from before making stupid posts.

That's approx equivalent to $563for moto x style, 40% more is outrageous,

Where did you find that price, I think it's highly unlikely as previous moto x was priced 32,000 in india and for $500 in usa (on 22 September 2014), which was almost equal, after some days (on 22 December) it was selling for 30,000. Moto x being cheaper phone than moto x I guess will be priced at most similar (32,000 initially) or cheaper 30,000/27,000.

Bro Rs 32,500 is Samsung Estore price. It will be available somewhere around Rs 28000 from the retailers on sale not after 2 months just in the beginning itself which is good thing considering the pricing of A3, A5 & A7.

ShaikhJGI His point was that moto x is costlier than A8.

Just swa this, Moto g is priced lower in India compared to US, so moto x might be priced lower than 25,600.

They should have used 5433 in 64 bit mode and boom, the device is worth the price.
