Cricket matches MetroPCS with $50/mo plan with 8GB of LTE data, unlimited talk and text

Last week, T-Mobile prepaid brand MetroPCS debuted a rather neat promotion that updated the $50/month plan to include 8GB of LTE data. Today, Cricket Wireless responded with a similar promotion that matches the MetroPCS offer.

Cricket Wireless and MetroPCS may have similarly-priced prepaid plans but they are not identical. The two prepaid carriers, however, have an intersection point at what seems to be the most popular plan, $50/mo for 5GB of LTE data. MetroPCS launched a promo last week that boosted the monthly storage bucket on the $50 plan to 8GB of monthly, and now Cricket Wireless has decided to match it.

If you're already on Cricket's $50/mo plan, instructions on how to upgrade can be found over at the source link below.

If you're tempted to make the switch to Cricket, note that you can shave $5 off the bill by setting up AutoPay on your account. 8GB of monthly data and unlimited talk and text at $45? That sounds like a good deal for heavier data users.

How about copying the rest of MetroPCS features

What, like terrible coverage and slow speeds? Seriously, Cricket runs on ATT and MetroPCS runs on T-Mobile, so Cricket's service is going to be leaps and bounds better than MetroPCS in most places.

Terrible slow speeds? Are you serious? Cricket is throttled to 8 Mbps! Not so much at Metro.

Not being throttled only matters if you actually have service. I can tell you for a fact that T-Mobile in the western U.S. has awful coverage. Cricket doesn't throttle anymore, as far as I know.

Well I got service with metro and it beats cricket with ease. Cricket $60 10GBs of high speed data Metro $60 as much high speed data as you want, even 100 GBs lol.

You'd be lucky to get half that on metro.

Sure they throttle but 8 Mbps is more than enough to do just about everything, including watching HD video. Plus AT&T's native coverage is far superior than T-Mo's native coverage. Remember, both Metro and Cricket are prepaid plans so no roaming on other carriers is included, so you are highly dependent on native coverage, which as I stated AT&T is FAR superior.

I mean to say roaming on other carriers is not included.

Yes you are correct. However, the problem with Metro is, calls get prioritized during peak times; you get sent to voicemail too often. TMobile post paid, prepaid, and then metro. If you don't use your phone, as phone Metro is the to go. If you desire faster speed, switch to Gophone with no throttling.

Wow that's a crazy deal!!! But not better than my 10 euro for unlimited text and calls in any network and 6Gb of data.

You can find the same here in Romania if you have some years in the same network.

Mine gf pays 6 Euro for unlimited data, but speed capped at 1Mb/s. Myself pays 15 Euro for 20GB data with 4G/LTE speed (up to 80Mb/s depends on location). For unlimted text and calls need to pay another 15 Euro which I dont need. Why pay for unlimted calls and text. When there are free apps that gives the same?

That's quite the jump from 2.5GB to 8GB. Hopefully they give the lower tiers a little extra.

Metro PCS $60 for true unlimited 4g LTE I usually get anywhere from 20-40 Mbps most of the time with my ZTE Max pro. Match that cricket lol

Oh and I forgot to mention I used 70 GBs last month of 4g LTE. Match that cricket lol.

i have cricket and i pay only $65 for unlimited i passed up to 247 GB in a month plus i live in a area surrounded by mountains and my calls and data works perfect without issues even no drop calls at all here plus when i had metro's service it was pure garbage up here i could not make calls or get any reception a waste of time with them matching what you have is what you get what you pay for. and yes metro data speed are fast but the reception is just awful its no contest to match anything on a superior network like AT&T's coverage

Lol that is a lot of YouTube and Netflix streaming, especially when you are capped at 8Mb.

Switched from Cricket to MetroPCS 3 mos ago because of slow throttled 8Mb/s! Getting 31 - 73Mb/s LTE speeds on MetroPCS for less than what I paid on Cricket! My wife Used almost 49gb of LTE data and I used 36 on MetroPCS yet LTE never throttles! I will never even consider going back to Cricket!
