Guess what got our hands on? The brand-new Apple iPad Air, which starts at $499! If you’ve checked out a recent iPad, then it’s a routine unboxing experience here with this 2019 edition of the popular tablet. As for the packaging itself, it’s in typical Apple fashion with a minimalist approach with the iPad Air’s profile smacked right on the front of the box – indicating the thin and light construction that the series has always been known for! And finally on the back, a few details about the exact model and serial number. Inside, we’re treated to the usual accessories consisting of the Lightning cable, USB power adapter, and the usual array of literature.

Right out of the box, the design of the iPad Air is a very familiar one. In fact, it’s almost identical to the last one that Apple deliver with the iPad Air 2 back in 2014! Yes, it’s been that long for a proper refresh, but the same extraordinary thin and light construction persists with this one. The biggest addition here that wasn’t present with the previous model are the pin connectors on its side to connect Apple’s Smart Keyboard. Compared to the iPad Pro line, the new iPad Air does feature a Touch ID fingerprint sensor – as opposed to Face ID. And lastly, there are only dual speakers with this one.

As for the specs, here are some of the main highlights.

  • Apple A12 Bionic chip with Neural Engine
  • 10.5-inch LCD Retina Display with True Tone and wide colors
  • Support for Apple Pencil (1st gen) and Smart Keyboard
  • 1-pound weight and slim, 6.1mm body
  • 10-hour battery life
  • Space gray, silver and gold color options

We’ll be putting this new iPad Air through the usual routine to really get a solid feel of it, so expect our in-depth review soon!
