AnTuTu posts screen sizes, names and more for the Sony Xperia Z6 line?

The alleged names and screen sizes of the next iteration of Sony's Xperia Z line was posted on AnTuTu's Weibo page today. According to the post, Sony will release five new handsets for the Xperia Z6 series. The devices include the Sony Xperia Z6 with a 5.2-inch screen, the Sony Xperia Z6 mini sporting a 4-inch screen, and the Sony Xperia Z6 Compact carrying a 4.6-inch display. A 5.8-inch screen will adorn the Sony Xperia Z6 Plus, and a huge 6.4-inch glass will be on the Sony Xperia Z6 Ultra.

AnTuTu's Weibo page also revealed that four out of the five models will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 chipset. The one exception will be the Xperia Z6 mini, which will have the Snapdragon 620 SoC under the hood. The former features a quad-core CPU featuring Qualcomm's custom Kryo cores, and the Adreno 530 GPU. The latter chipset contains an octa-core CPU and the Adreno 510 GPU.

Sony has sent out invitations for a press conference that will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center on January 5th, during CES 2016. The event will get underway at 5pm PST. It does seem too soon for Sony to replace the Sony Xperia Z5 line, so we will have to wait and see what the manufacturer has up its sleeves.

Thanks for the tip!

What happened to streamlining their portfolio :/ the Z6 mini especially seems like an odd thing even with the upcoming small iPhone. And the nomenclature is annoyingly inconsistent if true. They just need a Z6 Ultra and E6 for Q1 2016.

Many device are getting released in the market every month from competitors so every company have to think of ways to keep fan loyalty. More fish in the sea is better than to eat once a year.

So Sony with the Z6 line will have 5 Z6 models with displays starting from 4" to 6.4". They got you covered from a device that will be smaller than Apples upcoming small iPhone to a small tablet. I notice that Sony this time will be using different processors for different sizes. They never did that for their Z Line before. I guess Sony is going to use the SD 820 for their top end units.

I hear a part of people want small devices even smaller than the Xperia Compact because they have small hands and what Apple is doing is a proof that there is customers who want 4 inch devices. But Sony should make good advertisement if they want these people to notice that "mini"phone exist. And as far as I remember, last years top 10 phones sold on Japan had 8 phones with less than 5 inch screen sizes ,so it makes sense for the Japanese market.

Z6 mini...? In 2016? Nahhhh. I'm surprised that its already a Z6C than a Z7C one...prob cuz of the fabled 820 chip every major manufacturer is going to get their hands on.

this is exatly what they should have done long before: only one product, the Z6, in many different versions with different screen sizes. This is a good way of streamlining their portfolio, making it easy to understand which product is fit for you and at the same time offering phones that can cover everyone's needs.

I doubt it can compete, but Z6 mini is needed by Spiderman and other low income characters in Sony movies. You can see that Spiderman always uses Sony's midrange.

Damn you iPhone autocorrect! They're busy perfecting the iPhone but they left gaps holed in their iOS.

If Sony want success, they should change their design language, and they should improve their camera's(I mean the image reproduction is bad, the sensors are good).

Give me an updated Z Ultra with a better camera (and actually include a flash this time), better internals, and less bezel, and I will be the happiest guy on Earth. Yes it was a huge device, but the size didn't bother me one bit. I had the Google Play Edition, so I had the pleasure of using it with stock Android and it was hands down the best device I have ever owned. It had insanely good battery life, a huge crisp display, and just about everything about it was perfect to me. (aside from the lack of camera flash which still baffles me) Every time there's Z line rumors, there's rumors of a Z3 Ultra/Z4 Ultra/etc as well, and it has yet to happen.

Z5 Premium?

Z5 Premium is nice and all, but I'm talking proper Z Ultra with a 6.4 inch display.

I had the same but i didn't care about the flash as i usually don't use my phone for taking pictures. After the ultra i went to the z3tc also no flash. Now i use a z3+ because the audio is even better. It also has ldac support. Waiting for the gs9 hu and then I'll see if I'll use the wired or wireless solution in the car.

If they talk Z6 this CES, what could they possibly be thinking? what are they trying to proof?

I don't mind the quick z6 release next year. This is good news for xperia z3 and below users who hesitated upgrading to z5. Z3+ and m5 are garbage so z6 mini and compact for me if the hardware is ok.

This is why Sony is failing. The successor is on the horizon before the predecessor has even reached most peoples hands.

Samsung release galaxy series every year and it's still a flop. Regarding sales, there are many things to consider not just the distribution. Maybe z5 was released in a small volume, maybe z3+ was just for testing waters, maybe z5 compact have more production than z5 premium. Who knows, right?

wow what a logic. samsung's flop galaxies might be their low to midrange models. we're talking here abt thr Xperia Z line which is Sony's most popular handset lineup

I doubt any of these phones (if they truly exist) will be announced before mwc 2016! Any flagship announced at CES will totally kill the sales of the z5 line up. I don't care what phonearena says but Sony didnt announce any flagship at CES since the first Z about 3 years ago!
