AT&T's Samsung Galaxy S5 updated to Android 4.4.4; update includes VoLTE
AT&T's version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 received an update on Tuesday to Android 4.4.4. This comes the day after the Verizon variant of the phone received Android 5.0. Besides receiving Android 4.4.4, which includes bug fixes, enhancements and security updates, the update includes VoLTE along with some other new features and carrier bloatware.
The 487MB file also adds HD Voice, AT&T Mail (att.net.mail), AT&T Live, Uber and remote support from the carrier. HD Voice requires that both sides of the conversation have the feature and both accounts must be set up to enable the service. In addition, the two parties need to be in an area of the country that supports AT&T HD Voice.
While the update is being sent out OTA, you impatient types can try to manually pull the update out of your phone by going to Settings > About Device > Software Update > Check for Updates > Ok. When you do receive the notification about the update, make sure you are connected to a Wi-Fi network in order to conserve your data allowance. At the same time, make sure you have your battery charged to at least 50%.
