Samsung's rugged Galaxy S6 Active allegedly photographed
While Samsung's Galaxy S6 is undoubtedly superior to the Galaxy S5, the new flagship handset lacks some of the features that the S5 is offering. We're talking about a water-resistant body, microSD card support, and removable battery. Well, the first issue (at least) should be addressed by the Galaxy S6 Active, a rugged variant of the Galaxy S6 that might be officially announced in the near future.

GSM Arena received two photos that allegedly show a Galaxy S6 Active - model number SM-G890A - that's made for AT&T (it's not the first time we're hearing about an AT&T-bound S6 Active). If this is the real Galaxy S6 Active, the device is certainly not as elegant as the regular Galaxy S6, not to mention the S6 edge. But that's to be expected, since the S6 Active is built to be a tough device, rather than a pretty one.

It looks like the S6 Active doesn't have a fingerprint scanner, as there's no home button to include a fingerprint sensor. Instead, the handset comes with a three-button layout that draws similarities to the layout of last year's Galaxy S5 Active. It's said that the unannounced handset has a large 3600 mAh battery - definitely a step up from the 2600 mAh battery of the original S6. Other features likely include a 5.1 inch Quad HD display, octa-core Exynos 7420 processor, 3 GB of RAM, 5 MP front-facing camera, and a 16 MP rear camera. Speaking about the rear, we can see that the S6 Active also has a heart rate sensor. At the moment, the presence of a microSD card slot can't be confirmed.

It's not clear if Samsung will launch the Galaxy S6 Active globally, or just in the US. Hopefully, we'll soon have more details on this.
