Samsung Gear S2 support for iPhone right around the corner: Gear Manager app for iOS leaked

It was at the start of 2016 that Samsung promised that its Gear S2 flagship smartwatch will be able to pair up with iPhones “later this year”. Since then, we were once teased by Verizon that the needed update had been launched, but that was just an error in a changelog posted by the company.

Well, it seems that Gear S2 support for iPhone is nearing its launch stage, as an alleged Gear Manager app for iOS has been lieaked in a forum post on Vietnamese website Tinhte. Of course, sideloading an app to an iPhone is not as an easy task as it is on Android, and we really wouldn't recommend installing software from unauthorised sources. In any case, the forum thread does contain a couple of photos, which supposedly show a Gear S2 linked to an iPhone 5s or iPhone SE.

Samsung's Gear S2 is certainly among the best smartwatches you can get right now. It has the shiny variants to prove it, too – all we had last year was the sporty Gear S2 and the traditional-looking Gear S2 Classic, but this year, Sammy introduced shiny Platinum and Rose Gold finishes, and a premium (read: expensive), limited edition Gear S2 by de GRISOGONO.

The smartwatch doesn't run on the more commonly seen Android Wear operating system, but on Samsung's own Tizen. That's why, to sync to the Gear S2, you need Samsung's Gear manager app. So, seeing it leaked for iOS means that it's at least in a testing-ready stage, which means that iPhone owners should soon have the chance to don a Sammy wearable on their wrists.
