Report says Samsung smartphone sales might have surpassed those of the Apple iPhone
While the Samsung Galaxy S II has been the hottest smartphone available this summer, it has yet to launch in the U.S. although images believed to be the Sprint version of the model have recently been leaked. With a dual-core 1.2GHz processor under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy S II offers a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus screen with 480 x 800 resolution and 1GB of RAM on board. The back of the phone has an 8MP camera while there is a 2MP front-facing shooter as well. Five analysts surveyed by Bloomberg say that Samsung's second quarter earnings should double squarely from sales of the Galaxy S II. And if the device is finally released in the States for the third quarter, Samsung could report blow out figures for that period considering how much of a buzz the device has received in the U.S. from videos of the browser, hands on reports, and overseas reviews.
Mawston doesn't think that it is all green lights ahead for Samsung. The Korean based manufacturer might have to go up against a new Apple iPhone later this year and the latter is expected to have a more powerful chip for data and a more advanced camera, according to the Bloomberg story. The analyst says that Samsung will need to fight hard against a new Apple iPhone model to keep the strong momentum it has earned with the Samsung Galaxy S II.

this discussion is about to get heated. iPhone 5 should fight the rumored nexus prime because if sammy is going to stick with their release schedule, gs3 wont be out for a long time. np- 720p 4.8inch edge-edge display, android 4.0. Apple, balls in your court.
5. snowgator posted on 25 Jul 2011, 01:16 5
No kidding. 4.5" should be the upper limit. Anything else is just overkill to get headlines. If the Veer was too small, over 4.5" screens are way to large. Get a freaking tablet.
6. readingthissh1t posted on 25 Jul 2011, 01:24 7
i heard that the 4.8 inch is the same dimensions as 4.3inch minus the buttons and everything and an edge to edge display
10. biophone posted on 25 Jul 2011, 01:30 2
4.3 is huge. Also no buttons suck i want at least one. Then the edge to edge display will just break
13. readingthissh1t posted on 25 Jul 2011, 01:38 3
how will edge to edge screen break? yeah 4.3 is huge but my hands are to big for Apple's 3.5 inch and if 4.8 has a 720p resolution, idc i want to see a phone that matches that

It's still glass, glass which DOES break easy.

Clearly you've never tried to break gorilla glass. I've dropped my phone a dozen times and rapped it with my knuckles a dozen more. It takes a hammer to break the stuff.

Gorilla glass wont protect the screen from breaking. Just the glass over the screen.

Amazing that a 1 year old phone can still keep up in sales with the hottest new phone now available. The iPhone 5 sales will be stunning. Just goes to show you that people want a quality product. For those of you buying these phones just because of the sales volume that is just stupid. Don't be a follower get what you like.
12. readingthissh1t posted on 25 Jul 2011, 01:36 12
yet it is those same people buying a 1 year old phone being followers because of a brand.
i want a phone thats offering more than iOS5, iPhone 5. i want ota updates, a sexy looking ui with widgets, and i want to be able to watch/stream all kinds of media to my phone at a great resolution with exceptional battery life, manufacturer and carrier support for over a year and cool accessories. so far only high end android devices meet my standards.
-stuck with Droid Eris til September-
17. clevername posted on 25 Jul 2011, 01:47 2
Except for widgets, which are barely in ios5, IOS meets all those needs you listed.
Well almost it streams almost all kinds of media, but flash sites have IOS compatible apps or pages.everything else is in an iPhone.
19. readingthissh1t posted on 25 Jul 2011, 01:54 3
one thing i dont like about iOS is that your homescreen is well.. your apps. not widgets, or interactive ui, just app icons, folders and red numbers for notification. i wont get an iOS device because of the company, Apple has been trigger happy with the lawsuit gun lately, i believe that they do not like any sort of competition.

Lol this almost seems like a sarcastic you post. You just named the iPhone except widgets.
OTA updates check
sexy ui check
watch media check
great resolution check
exceptional battery life check
manufacturer and carrier support check

iPhone cant play all kinds of media, and i should be more specific about the resolution. i want a great resolution on a large screen.

It is an Apples/Oranges thing at this point. No Galaxy in the US (or Canada? Have our Northern friends got one yet?), no new iPhone out yet. It would be a nice P.R. thing for Sammy, but not much else. Actually, and completely my opinion, I think Samsung may need to get another Galaxy line out by Jan/Feb 2012 to try and trump iPhone 5's (or whatever it is called) sales, or this could be a short lived victory.

It might just depend on what iphone 5 has to offer to beat Galasy S2. But regardless, the nexuses will be coming this December or early 2012 to back up the android army. I'm very satisfied so far with SGS2, so unless ip5 has something groundbreaking, I'm sticking to android.
8. BobbyTaba posted on 25 Jul 2011, 01:25 2
The galaxy s 2 has only been out from may to June so they will have better sales this quarter especially if it comes to us with lte for Verizon and wimax and hspa
9. readingthissh1t posted on 25 Jul 2011, 01:29 0
I wish there were more rumors for the nexus 3/prime. 4.8 inches with a 720p resolution sounds sick, my ultimate multimedia phone. hopefully that s**t will have good battery life.
11. clevername posted on 25 Jul 2011, 01:33 4
The sad thing is the iPhone 5 will sell more than the iPhone 4, and once again break records with its sales figures regardless of what features are added or what hardware is upgraded and fir the sg2 to compete it had to be a superphone that surpassed all other android phones. Apple just needs to make the next iPhone shinier than before and it'll stay on top.
What a market.
14. baldilocks posted on 25 Jul 2011, 01:42 1
Well, when you make dozens of different phones of course you are going to outsell a company that is only making two models.
18. readingthissh1t posted on 25 Jul 2011, 01:50 1
please don't make an excuse for Apple, let us enjoy our small victory while it last, the iPhone 5 is on the horizon and i fear a war incoming in the tides of the future. September-iPhone 5 record sales, revolutionary *new*(already on android phones) features. November- Revolutionary Nexus Phone and ICS Flagship Phones. December- Big Ass Mobile War January- I wonder if true innovation will die or will fandroids and iPhans will not be judged by one another by the phones and OS's they prefer but by the attitudes they have each other!
21. Sniggly posted on 25 Jul 2011, 02:16 3
Um...this article IS about a single model possibly outselling two models from the other company.

i read PA's comment threads for fun. from what ive read from the past articles with big eye-catching names like this, there are sure to be casualties from both sides
43. readingthissh1t posted on 25 Jul 2011, 03:43 0
i guess this wont explode with levelheaded commenting, i guess we have to be assholes to iPhone users to get sh1t started
44. Sniggly posted on 25 Jul 2011, 03:47 1
LOL. I meant to disregard what I said about this article being about Galaxy S 2 phones. I made a factual error. Now I'll probably get jumped on when the others pop on.
And we won't need to be assholes. They're self starters. :D

oh sh1t its taco!!
61. Sniggly posted on 25 Jul 2011, 11:04 3
Way ahead of you, taco. Already corrected myself.
28. Sniggly posted on 25 Jul 2011, 02:50 2
Of course, we could also be disingenuous like Apple and include both SGS II AND SGS I sales for Samsung right now, and THEN we'd see a significant leg up over Apple's sales.
Also, the main boosts to Apple's sales right now are its first full quarter on Verizon Wireless and the 3GS being sold for 50 freaking dollars. The SGS II is getting these numbers without any significant US release.
64. taco50 (banned) posted on 25 Jul 2011, 11:20 0
SGS II has only sold about 3- 4 million units. The article talks about all of Samsung smartphones where they have at least 3 models that I know of, but I think it's more. They also have low end cheap models.
Out of touch with reality you are and making up facts as usual.
70. readingthissh1t posted on 25 Jul 2011, 17:49 0
didnt it sell 6 million?
73. Sniggly posted on 25 Jul 2011, 18:59 0

51. ryq (unregistered) posted on 25 Jul 2011, 07:36 0
yup! you are so right. add that with nokia falling and aggressive campaign by samsung, people are choosing samsung rather than other android phones of lg or htc or sony ericsson. samsung definitely will be number one in the mid and high end segment of mobile phones. i dont think even with nokia's windows phone coming out will they be able to turn the tide against samsung. samsung is well prepared for this. nokia is moving too slow.
16. readingthissh1t posted on 25 Jul 2011, 01:43 1
i feel the hype going higher and higher with each new iPhone release even though they are catching up others. iPhone is like rocky, he sucks against strong opponents but somehow in the end, he catches up and wins, and the crowds go wild.
26. Sniggly posted on 25 Jul 2011, 02:46 3
Meh...I'd actually compare Android to Rocky, the underdog that everyone sneers at and that iPollo Creed ridicules every chance he gets, but manages to stand toe to toe with the best and win.
30. readingthissh1t posted on 25 Jul 2011, 02:57 0
i do think android fits in there as rocky but the only crowds i hear going wild are the geeks and nerds who take the time to look at specs and compare them, people who got bored of iOS and people who refer to android phones by the name of the manufacturer. "damn dude, you got the Htc???"
34. Sniggly posted on 25 Jul 2011, 03:04 2
Well, to be fair, Android is more like Windows as an operating system; people identify more with the manufacturers than the software itself. Windows is there, it's pretty much the same across hardware, so the hardware is what makes the difference. For instance, I have a 300 buck Dell laptop. Nothing special, but nothing to sneeze at either. But there are other guys who have frickin' Alienware and Gateway computers that cost four times as much (or more) and are about 4 times as awesome.
If we were to translate that to Android, it'd be like me running the LG Vortex while other people have the SGS II and the HTC Sensation.
36. readingthissh1t posted on 25 Jul 2011, 03:07 2
your right man, i just wish that people were more educated about their phones and not pick a phone based on hype. that goes both ways.
39. Sniggly posted on 25 Jul 2011, 03:15 2
I agree. I have met some very uneducated people when it comes to Android as well as the iPhone. For instance, I had a coworker who vehemently insisted that she and her boyfriend had just picked up the Droid X for 100 bucks total, back a couple of months after it launched. When I actually saw the phones I laughed, because they had actually been sold the LG Ally.
41. readingthissh1t posted on 25 Jul 2011, 03:29 1
lol that is sad.
i very much dislike how some serious iPhans look down on android users and call us poor, and suggest that we couldnt afford an iPhone, yet my next phone will probably cost the same as the iPhone 5 or more. It pisses me off how uneducated people are then have the nerve to post such ignorant comments
56. taco50 (banned) posted on 25 Jul 2011, 10:35 0
if you weren't poor why would you get a 2nd rate device?
60. readingthissh1t posted on 25 Jul 2011, 10:48 1
bro you know what kind of house i live in?? well its way over the 500k mark. stfu, im still stuck with my android from 2 years ago, i chose it because i wanted an alternative to ios, also see page one as for why i chose/will choose android over ios.
65. taco50 (banned) posted on 25 Jul 2011, 11:23 0
You listed all the features of an iPhone on page 1 which shows how uneducated AND poor you are. If you have so much money why do you have a crapdroid that's 2 years old?
71. readingthissh1t posted on 25 Jul 2011, 17:52 1
asswipe, you think the iPhone is the only smartphone with those features?? you sloww bro? the reason im holding off is the nexus prime. nexus phones get update faster than anyone else, and have great hardware. i didnt get a nexus s, because that phone sucked. btw how much do you make per year?
24. readingthissh1t posted on 25 Jul 2011, 02:35 0
what android phone are you looking forward to sniggly?
25. Sniggly posted on 25 Jul 2011, 02:45 0
Well, I personally am going to be getting the Atrix, but if timing and cost weren't an issue, as well as reception, I would be holding out for the Bionic.
As it is, I'm going to be getting the Atrix for 75 bucks on a new contract, and AT&T gets better reception in some critical spots than Verizon around here.
29. readingthissh1t posted on 25 Jul 2011, 02:54 0
nice mann, but are you sure you dont wanna hold out until google's flagship or quad cores
32. Sniggly posted on 25 Jul 2011, 02:59 2
I can't. My current phone service gets cut off August 1st; funny how Verizon doesn't want you paying employee rates for your phone when you're not an employee anymore. :P The Atrix is available, it's got good processing power, and it has Gingerbread. And it fits my current budget. I might save up for a higher end toy in the future, but I have to work with what I have.
35. readingthissh1t posted on 25 Jul 2011, 03:05 0
damn dude... is there nothing you can do to get a better phone?? Atrix was all the rage when dualcore phones were displayed months ago but over time, the bionic has taken people by storm. also, the atrix is just now getting gingerbread. it doesnt look like a type of phone you would see on the next android version update list, or maybe im just too picky? i recommend people to get the best android phone available because in 2 years, your phone's performance, software and hardware support from manufacturers and carriers decrease. Never again will i, or anyone else get stuck with a sh1tty eris.
38. Sniggly posted on 25 Jul 2011, 03:13 1
Aww. You think the Eris is s**tty? :( It was a great little phone when it was new. Granted, yes, the support for it ended up sucking, but it seemed to work great.
I think the Atrix could definitely end up on the next update list. I mean, look at the Droid X. It already got Froyo when it launched with Eclair, and now look at it. It has Gingerbread.
Also, the Atrix is still on par with pretty much any phone today in terms of hardware; it's just been behind on the software. Gingerbread rocks; even if it doesn't get hit with Ice Cream Sandwich, I'm okay with that. I've been updating my phones about once a year anyway since 2009.
