Nokia announces MWC press conference, scheduled for February 24

Mobile World Congress 2014 is quickly approaching. In just a month's time, hordes of geeks from all over the world will gather in Barcelona drawn by their passion for mobile gadgets. We'll be there as well, of course, and one of the events we'll surely attend is the Nokia press conference, scheduled for Monday, February 24. What's going to be announced there? Well, we aren't entirely sure, and the invitation doesn't really give us any hints as to what will be unveiled. New smartphones? New services? The long-rumored Android-powered Nokia Normandy, perhaps? We can only guess. Thankfully, it won't be long until we learn what Nokia has in stock. Stay tuned as we'll likely get more clues on the matter as the event approaches.

Nokia please release Normandy please.. as a goodbye gift to your fans. .. we know elop and ms fu up badly.. but you are independent now..
xda will make sure it will be a very capable device and it will still sell way more than any Samsung low end phone.. that will give you confidence to return in 2016 with Android.. comeon Nokia..

As pointed out several times, year after year declination of sales by Nokia themselves
Market share gain is MS FUD now isn't it.

Dude get your mind right, when you make comments like that and people got the never to upvote it really shows that a lot of you have no idea of what you are talking about, what you stated are not facts.

Google or Bing "The burning platform memo", to get the facts.

Android would not have saved Nokia they would have died already mainly due to Samsung being the King of Android, others like HTC are struggling, MS financially supported Nokia which they needed pretty much like the way the helped out Apple in the 90's however this deal was exclusive to WP.

To make a long story short under WP Nokia has been thriving, they sold 30 million Lumias over the last year compared to 13.3 million in 2012, in the process they in the process made WP the fastest growing OS worldwide, look it up.

I see Lumias is being ground breaking, an excellent hardware/software combination, everyone is copying Nokia from hardware great cameras, colored smartphones, everyone is copying Windows Phone Metro aka Modern UI, look at Android, it's OEM's and iOS , app developers website, WP changed design language, everyone is now Flat, Clean Minimalistic and Tiled like.

Nokia employees will still be making Lumias I see a bright future.

" The
burning platform memo",
to get the facts. Android would not have saved
Nokia they would have died
already mainly due to Samsung"

this is the reason why I call you a fanboy .. when burning platform memo was released Samsung was not the king.. it was Htc who was dominant.. blindly believing elop words..
htc has is struggling not because it has android but because of marketing and overpriced phones in mid and low range... Sony and LG is beautifully making a comeback both are profitable they sold more than nokia wp phones.. wp is not making nokia phones sell.. its nokia brand value that is making windows phone sell ..
tell me if windows phone is so successful why did Samsung, htc quit and never put efforts in wp .. because of a simple reason majority people don't like windows phone , it has been a failure.. the market share they earned has been through lumia 520,620 which was sold at LOSS.. anybody can gain Markey share if they sell at a loss.. if blackberry started selling bb10 os at 70$ off contract it will also gain market share... its all about price... but in long run you can't sell at a loss ,gain market share and stay alive that what happened to nokia..
I am a nokia fan and use to support wp as well but after lumia 800,900 disaster it wad simple majority people don't like wp.. it was fast and fluent, android was laggy ... but what if aandroid got fast and fluent , and exactly that's what happened with jelly bean so people didn't switch.. and ms failed with wp8 slow development... all the work done is by nokia making exclusives apps, features for lumia .. while ms was sleeping with outdated hardware...
what nokia emloyees are you talking about majority of great nokia employees have already resigned including pureview camera guru Damian Deming , their lumia design head who designed all phones and countless others.. many more will leave after sale is complete... nokia management was already changed when elop came along and infected with its ms employees.. so what you will get is a pure Microsoft product with no nokia not even nokia brand tag..
without nokia brand sales will fall for windows phone.. and then they will reboot to windows phone 9..

And Lumia 929 is just for Verizon.

In my opinion if Nokia makes the Normandy,,, we're looking at another HTC first here.. I just don't see this phone shaking up the market, or becoming a threat to other low end phones on the market.. It might if it stayed on the market for multiple generations, but it would most likely be short lived.. A novelty at most...

you clearly are too blinded with ms famboyism and cleArly don't see that this is a less than 80$ off contract phone for india .. ashas sell in huge number at that price which is a feature phone.. if a dumb phone can sell in huge numbers at that price a smartphone will even sell more. and before you say lumia 520 .. it is 130$ phone in india.. so Normandy will kill all the 100$ phones there being an android from nokia and will be the biggest selling device.. htc first was totally a differnt thing and was not cheap...

The device will gain a lot of traction and won't be short lived. XDA has been, and will always be there to make the most out of this device.
Just look at even the HTC G1 getting Kitkat. That proves how popular can things get.

It showed a tiny decline, as others did also.. It's no big deal, and definitely nothing to start pitting against Lumia devices with.. Who cares? And Microkia expected this dip knowing that they weren't releasing a load of new devices, with updated software, for the holiday season.. This isn't anything to panic about.

Before anyone is excited, Normandy, if announced, will NOT be running on Google Android. Otherwise Nokia will be going down, hard.

I hope this event is where we'll see some next generation Windows Phone hardware by Nokia, and finally get a peek at WP8.1..
Nevertheless, it most likely won't, and WP fans will have to wait for Build 2014...

I just can't wait to see what Cortana has to offer..

FYI... The Microkia deal still hasn't gone through yet, so the devices that Nokia has been working on for the past 6 months, that have yet to be revealed, will still be branded Nokia devices for now.. I can see any Lumia, or other device, that comes out for the next 2 quarters still being branded Nokia devices.. I wouldn't expect a non Nokia, solely Lumia, branded device until late 2014,, if not early 2015..
I say solely Lumia because that's the only thing that makes since at this point, and nobody, including myself, thinks that a Microsoft branded phone sounds that great.. It only makes sense for MS to do exactly what they did with Xbox, and Surface, and leave the Lumia brand to itself... Now, I'm sure the would stamp the name "MS" really tiny on the back, and that would be fine... As long as the hardware only change's for the better, and not the worst.. But, I have faith that It'll either stay the same, or improve slightly,,, I hope...

I'm interested in Nokia's last hurrah device release's before Microsoft and Nokia seal their Deal. If the Nokia Android powered "Normandy" is released before their Deal is sealed
Folks it's a good bet Microsoft will have to support the "Normandy" if they are on sale before
Microsoft takes over Nokia's devices and services mobile division. If it is not on the market place then Microsoft can cancel it's manufacturing. I do not think it would hurt Microsoft to offer an Android OS smart phone instead it would show that Microsoft is a Savvy corporation
and sells different types of devices including Android devices to the Public in it's online store , Brick motor store and independent outlets like "Best Buy".
