Asus ZenFone 2 up for preorder, price for the 4 GB RAM model revealed

The Asus ZenFone 2 announcement was one of the most pleasant surprises at the CES expo last month, not least because it touted pretty decent specs for a pretty low, $199 price. Subsequently, it turned out that this tag won't be for the version with the 5.5" 1080p display, but rather for the more pedestrian 5-incher with HD 720p resolution.

Those initial 5.5-inch ZenFone 2 models are now up for preorder, and their price starts a Benjamin higher than the $199 price Asus touted, which is reserved for the 5-incher. All in all, the 5.5" ZenFone 2 with 2 GB of RAM will run you $299, which is still not bad at all for a phone with 1080p panel and 13 MP camera on the back, plus a generous 3000 mAh battery.

The real intrigue here is the price for the model with 4 GB of RAM, as those are few and far between, and Asus has pegged it at $439 - again nothing to sniff at for such a hardware. All color versions are available, too, so if you are interested, hit the preorder link below.

In India Samsung has slashed the price of Galaxy s4 to less than half of what it retailed for last year. Could this mean that they are gonna take a radical decision to slash the price of their flagships so as to compete with the Chinese manufacturers? Given the choice I'd choose Samsung any day over the Chinese if the price gap ain't too big

The S4 isn't even close to the performance of this phone. If brand is that important to you, I guess you could compromise.

This processor is close to SD 800 and hence not much better than the S4 I.e. exynos 5410 which is a lot faster than the SD 600 in LTE S4. Plus the S4 is available for 280 $. I'd gladly take it for the AMOLED.

Actually this processor smokes the 800. It is more on par with the 805.

Are you kidding?

In what benchmark Antutu? Beyond meaningless.

The Intel processor inside this Asus slaughters 800 series in web benchmarks and real world performance.

Plus its 64bit and ready for 64bit apps and the improved performance that comes with that transition.

Snapdragon 600? Are you kidding? I can get the same performance as 600 out of Dual Core Krait. Same exact CPU cores after all (along with 800, 801 and 805),

this price is not from asus, asus did not announce any price or pre order, the seller is a reseller, he will give you 60 days time after confirming the pre order and will buy it and sell it to the person at a high price!

ASUS is a Taiwanese company. Not Chinese.

Wow WTF. At that price they should put Snapdragon 8xx or atleast 6xx on the 4GB model.

Its really even better than that really when you consider how much better Intel Atom is at web benchmarks than Snapdragon.

Obviously your brains are destroyed by marketing, and you don't know how fast Intel or nVidia processors are..

Why pay more for less performance? Krait is 3 years old and the new Snapdragons are all stock ARM off-the-shelf and so far have pathetic battery performance (as 8 core SoC's always do).

Intel Atom is fantastic and 64bit already. This will mean a lot for app loading speed and future proofing as Android converts to 64bit. 4gb of RAM also should not be underestimated considering the programming mess that Android is.

The device is a great deal and even better without Snapdragon.

This price is not from Asus. Check the source. And for 4gb variant I think it will be around 24k in India. And it's justifiable.

Please note I be thinking they all ddr3 ram setups, even the 4gb will not be upto 3gb ddr4 in speed I.e. Do nothing to help you at all, I.e. If a phone got 3gb ddr4 then that is way better the. 4gb ddr3 phone

Is there any difference between the 5 and 5.5 inch besides screen size and presumably battery? I might just go with the 5 in, I don't care about having a supersized phone.
