It’s been a tough year for YouTube Premium subscribers after Google bumped the price of its Individual plan from $13.99 to $15.99, and the Family plan jumped from $22.99 to $26.99. This hike might pay off as the company just announced a new partnership.

Peacock will join YouTube Premium in 2027

Google just announced that it’s expanding its partnership with NBCUniversal across YouTube and YouTube TV. As part of this extension, YouTube Premium subscribers in the US will get access to Peacock Premium in 2027.

YouTube will bundle the ad-supported version of Peacock Premium in its standard subscription. This will allow users to stream shows, movies, and live sports directly through the YouTube app.

Yeah, there’ll be ads

A key detail from the announcement is that YouTube Premium subscribers will get ad-supported access to Peacock’s content. This may come as a disappointment, as removing ads from videos is the most important perk of the subscription.

However, Google said in its statement that it will “let subscribers upgrade their Peacock membership and choose the best plan for them.” This strongly suggests that users will be able to pay extra to get ad-free experiences.

Another part of the deal will see NBCUniversal streaming “a selection of live sporting events” on YouTube. This means some sporting events will make it to the NBC Sports YouTube channel.

The new perk will be available “beginning in early 2027.” While focused on the US, NBCUniversal’s announcement also mentioned that the agreement will include some of its Universal+ and Hayu streaming services in select markets.

This news may feel like a breath of fresh air for YouTube Premium subscribers after the recent price increases. In fact, many commenters on Reddit were not just mad at Google for that, but also disappointed. As we all know, that’s even worse.

Not a bad deal, at least for now

Considering the ad-supported Peacock subscription currently costs $10.99 per month, this partnership could make lives cheaper for everyone paying for both subscriptions.

Even if that’s not the case, YouTube Premium subscribers are certainly going to enjoy getting extra content. Of course, this could be an excuse for Google to adjust its prices once again, which would make things feel very different.

It’s a little confusing

Most people I know pay for YouTube Premium to get rid of the ads, but now they’ll get bonus content with ads. This is certainly going to leave some people confused, while others will be outright mad because of the ads. Let’s hope it all works out great and there are no more price adjustments coming.
