In the quest to get out of the couch and do that jog, we're equipping ourselves with all kinds of gadgets. Smartwatches, fitness trackers, and, since recently - smart rings.

The most popular one is, of course, the Oura ring, but there's another brand, called (quite pompously) Ultrahuman, and it just got better.

Ultrahuman adds Les Mills workouts

You'll be excused if you haven't heard about Ultrahuman, but if you're serious about your fitness, then Les Mills should mean something to you.

The popular global fitness brand is now Ultrahuman's partner and is bringing trainer-led workouts to the companion app of the Ultrahuman smart ring.

Smarter workouts with biometric data

The new integration is using user data to give personalized workout recommendations. It's the latest addition to Ultrahuman's PowerPlug system — basically a way to add a bunch of third-party services into the platform and make use of the users' biometric data.

The Les Mills integration, for example, uses metrics like sleep, recovery, and, where applicable, menstrual cycle phase to suggest workout routines that suit the user's general fitness and readiness.

Recovery-Driven Fitness Recommendations

You start by setting a goal — cardio, strength, or generally getting in shape — and tell the app how many times a week you plan to train.

Then you get a set of basic daily workouts from the Les Mills catalog — these include HIIT, strength sessions, yoga, and more. These suggestions use the ring's recovery data — if you're well-rested and your sleep has been decent in the past couple of nights, you may get a more intensive or generally more challenging workout.

On the other hand, if you've been tired or slept poorly, the app will suggest more laid-back or recovery sessions.

The ring will also track your vitals during the workout session and update the recovery predictions and the suggested workouts for the next session, creating a feedback loop in order to optimize your training.

The PowerPlug feature is subscription-based

The PowerPlug feature is part of Ultrahuman's paid subscription services. You can get it for $11.99 per month or $99.99 for a year-long subscription. For people who are serious about their fitness and want to progress fast, this new integration might offer another useful tool.
