Target one-ups Best Buy with $150 gift cards for Pixel 3 and 3 XL pre-orders
If your mind is set on one of the two new “Made by Google” smartphones running stock Android Pie out the box, but you’re having trouble deciding where to pre-order the Pixel 3 or 3 XL from, a couple of introductory deals might help you make up your mind.

While Verizon no longer offers a complimentary Pixel Stand, you can still buy a Pixel 3 and get a second unit for free on the nation’s largest wireless network. The BOGO arrangement can even be combined with Best Buy’s gratis $100 gift card, but if you’re only looking to purchase one phone, Target will maximize your savings.

Until October 20, the department store retailer will hand out free $150 gift cards in brick and mortar stores with “qualified” Verizon activations of the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. You can reserve your device online, but unfortunately, Target doesn’t appear to be selling “Clearly White” models.

Thus, you need to settle for “Just Black” or “Not Pink” variants, starting at $800 and $900 outright respectively. Quantities are obviously limited, and not all Target stores seem to participate in this promotion. Only “select” locations with Target Tech.

The Pixel 3 and 3 XL probably need no introduction anymore, pairing a Snapdragon 845 processor with 4GB RAM and 64 gigs of internal storage space in their entry-level configurations.

The extra-large “pure Google” phone comes with a sharper, “notchy” screen, but otherwise, the differences between the two models are minimal. The Pixel 3 XL obviously packs a larger battery as well, sharing a single rear-facing camera and dual selfie shooters with its little brother.

Overall, these continue to feel somewhat overpriced, but a $150 coupon you can use for future Target shopping should make the handsets’ price tags slightly easier to swallow.
