T-Mobile announces another transition, this one in personnel
T-Mobile already has started a huge transition to a digital-first wireless provider.

For T-Mobile, it's another transition. We all know about the one that is making the carrier a digital-first wireless provider, forcing subscribers to use the T-Life app to handle transactions. And yeah, there was even another transition as the carrier late in June confirmed our story about long-time subscribers being forced to move to a modern plan.
"Customers will transition to modern plans that provide access to America's best wireless technology, enhanced features and a 5-year price guarantee for peace of mind," T-Mobile told us. And now there is another transition, and while it might affect T-Mobile customers, the impact won't be as large or as direct as the other two I mentioned above.
T-Mobile names Jessica Uhl the company's CFO Designate
T-Mobile announced on Thursday that Jessica Uhl has been appointed the carrier's Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Designate effective in the middle of this month. She is scheduled to succeed Peter Osvaldik in February 2027. Osvaldik joined the company a decade ago (that was 2016 for the mathematically challenged) and replaced previous CFO Braxton Carter.
Uhl was once the CFO of Shell, the huge oil company
Uhl is the former CFO of Shell and in her last job she was President of GE Vernova. The latter is an independent energy company that was spun off from General Electric in April 2024. Over her 30-year career, Uhl was involved in the conservative allocation of capital for large companies.

Current CFO Peter Osvaldik will work alongside Uhl until February
Initially, Uhl will work alongside Osvaldik during what T-Mobile is calling "an extended transition period," which will end in February with Uhl becoming the CFO and Osvaldik taking a Strategic Advisor position until his contract with T-Mobile expires on July 1, 2027.
I am thrilled to welcome Jessica to T-Mobile. She brings deep financial and strategic acumen, capital allocation expertise and an innovative growth mindset that is a perfect fit for T-Mobile’s next era. Jessica has a distinguished track record leading complex businesses, effectively balancing strategic investments with financial and operational discipline. After a thorough search process, I am confident Jessica is the right leader to help shape our growth agenda as CFO, and I am grateful she and Peter will collaborate through an extended transition period to ensure continuity and a seamless succession.

Her experience working at a company as large as Shell should help Uhl enjoy a smooth transition
With a background that includes working with companies involved in a complex business such as Shell, Uhl would appear to be extremely capable when it comes to handling T-Mobile's finances. After all, she was CFO of one of the biggest oil companies in the world. Shell has a current market cap of $255 billion to $257 billion compared with T-Mobile's current valuation of nearly $202 billion.
Does Uhl's experience make her perfect for the job?

At Shell, Uhl was in charge of the energy company's financial strategy, involvement in the capital markets (raising funds by selling bonds, for example) and led the company's investor relations department, overseeing operations across more than 70 markets.
