The Samsung Sound app is going to the digital graveyard. Samsung is preparing to pull the plug on the app just months after its initial launch on iOS and Android. Now the app is being discontinued and replaced by the SmartThings app.

The latest update to the Samsung Sound app brings an alarming notice, informing users of its discontinuation. The SmartThings app is taking over.
“To provide a more convenient and unified experience, the Samsung Sound app is being integrated into SmartThings,” the notice reads.
Users will need to register all sound devices — smart speakers, soundbars, etc. — in the SmartThings app to continue using their existing settings before the Samsung Sound shutdown.
The SmartThings app offers better features

Samsung Sound was launched to give users a dedicated app to set up and control speakers and soundbars. However, the app lacked certain features right from the get-go, such as IP controls, Auto Power Off, and shortcuts for Tap Sound.
All those features were already built into the SmartThings app, making the Samsung Sound app somewhat redundant from the very start.
There were some bugs as well, such as the power button disappearing from the app after the soundbar was turned on, effectively preventing you from switching off the connected speaker from the app.

Grace period for the Samsung Sound app

The Samsung Sound app will remain active and available to all users until March 31, 2027. So, there's plenty of time for anyone using the app to switch to SmartThings.
Even after the deadline, SmartThings will handle all your Samsung sound devices, so there's no need to worry.
It's worth noting, though, that this is one of the shortest-lived apps Samsung has ever launched, lasting less than a year. Will you miss the Samsung Sound app?
