The iPhone 17 is about to get a worthy successor. | Image by PhoneArena
If you thought the iPhone 17 was a great deal with all the upgrades and the unchanged price tag, good news. The iPhone 18 is shaping up to be even better! According to the latest leak, the iPhone 18 is set to get a big RAM increase to 12GB. And this would make it the deal of the century.
iPhone 18 is getting 12GB of RAM
The leak comes from DigiTimes Asia and cites industry insiders in the memory area. According to the media, RAM manufacturers such as SK Hynix and Samsung are seeing an increased demand for 12GB RAM chips.
The client driving the increase in demand and subsequent production of 12GB memory chips is allegedly Apple. And one particular feature inside the iPhone 18 requires the memory expansion. Yes, you've guessed right.

Siri AI is to "blame" for the upgrade

During the WWDC last week, Apple spent a huge chunk of the presentation talking about Apple Intelligence and the integration with the all-new and smarter Siri AI.

And even though Apple has a vague statement about the availability of Siri AI on older models such as the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 16, many features won't work on models with 8GB of RAM.
These 8GB iPhones will be stuck with "base" Siri AI, and Apple aims to avoid further complications on the iPhone 18 series by giving the base model 12GB of RAM. Looking at the backlash on Reddit, this seems to be the correct course of action.
The iPhone 18 is expected to start at $799
No price increase? Thank Cook! That's great! | Image by Apple
No price hike is expected for the vanilla iPhone 18, and the model will most likely start at the same $799 as its predecessor. Which is great news, given all the upgrades that we received on the iPhone 17 and the bump-up in RAM we expect on the next model.
The 12GB iPhone 18 could affect iPhone 18 Pro sales negatively, but with these specs and at this price, it could also crush the competition.
Better than the Galaxy S27 and the Pixel 11?

In terms of specs, features, and price, the iPhone 18 could be the model to dominate and crush rivals such as the Galaxy S27 and Pixel 11.
The Galaxy S27 is expected to cost $100 more and largely match the specs and features of the iPhone 18, while the Pixel 11 could match the $799 price tag, but it will most likely be slower due to the Tensor chipset still playing catch-up with Apple and Qualcomm silicon.
This rumored 12/256GB iPhone 18 at $799 sounds like an amazing deal. Would you buy it in place of the Pro models?
