Google Maps is one of those apps that can be used in many different situations although its main Raison d'etre is obviously to get you from Point "A" to Point "B" quickly and safely. But the app can also tell you where to find gas, a good meal, a place to stay, and where you can be entertained at Point "B" after you arrive there. Over the years, Google has improved the UI, added many new capabilities, and recently included features based on Google's Gemini AI.
Gemini is a great companion for drivers
One of the best ways you can employ Gemini on a long drive is to use Google Live as a virtual friend that you can have conversations with. Gemini can also be an AI co-pilot that will navigate to locations and discover places for you to go by talking to Gemini as though it were a friend. For example, instead of using keywords, you can ask Gemini "Find me a romantic Italian dinner spot nearby that isn't too loud and has easy parking.

Google posted a new Blog page today announcing that Google Maps users will now be able to use Gemini while walking or cycling. Gemini can be your personal tour guide while you're walking. You might be making a trek through an unfamiliar area and ask, "OK Google, what neighborhood am I in?" If your stomach is feeling the pangs of hunger, you could ask Gemini to list the top-rated restaurants nearby. Gemini will recommend such eateries that will appear along your route.

You can now use Gemini on Google Maps while walking or cycling
While you're riding on your bike, Google Maps will give you help hands-free allowing you to concentrate on your cycling. You can get information from Gemini while pedaling by asking queries such as, "When is my next meeting?" or "What is my ETA?" If you're running late, you can ask Gemini to send a text to Pierre telling him that you will arrive a few minutes behind schedule. This can all be done while you are concentrating on the road, the pedals, and the handlebars of your bike.
These new walking and cycling navigation features for Gemini are now available on iOS and Android worldwide, wherever Gemini is available. Google Maps can be installed for the iPhone from the App Store.
