Apple scrambles after iPhone Duo launch falls short but I fear it’s not enough

Apple is sending out requests to suppliers as iPhone Duo stock disappears in seconds but there's one hurdle stopping the company from making more units.

Apple is scrambling to secure more iPhone Duo units as soon as possible after the highly anticipated foldable iPhone sold out within seconds of becoming available for pre-order, mostly due to scalpers. However, considering the multiple problems that the company is facing, it might not be able to fulfill iPhone Duo demand for a very long time, no matter how much production of components is ramped up.

Apple requests an increase in production of components

According to a new report (translated source), Apple has put in requests with suppliers to ramp up production of components used in the iPhone Duo. Shipping dates for the phone have slipped into next year and scalpers are putting up units for sale on platforms like eBay at mind-boggling prices of up to $5,000.

Dwindling stock, increasing problems

Meanwhile, wild rumors are emerging about the iPhone Duo. Some claim that you won’t be able to get an iPhone Duo even if you try to get one from a physical store once they become available. Apparently, only units that were pre-ordered will be allowed to be sold, the rest will be demo units.

Though Apple store employees have come out and said that this isn’t true, Apple fans are understandably not happy with what has happened. Apple isn’t a newcomer to having its new products scalped, but customers are frustrated that the company still hasn’t taken any measures against this.

The problem is, real people are unable to place legitimate orders without having to endure a ridiculously long wait time.

iPhone Duo has another problem

Going back to the report about component production, there’s another problem that has surfaced. Apple is apparently having trouble sourcing Nittobo T-Glass by Japan’s Nitto Boseki.

If T-Glass supply remains low, there’s no point in requesting higher production for other components, new iPhone Duo units will be impossible to manufacture.

There are two possibilities here

As of now, I think that iPhone Duo availability is going to remain shaky for the foreseeable future. That is, of course, unless Apple does something to combat scalpers and cancels any massive orders that seem like they might have been placed by teams of scalpers and their bots.

I don’t really see that happening, though, as Apple is congratulating itself on the demand for its newest flagship.
