Xiaomi to introduce thin flagship model on January 15th?

Last month, Xiaomi president Lei Jun said that the company would introduce its next flagship smartphone in January. So far this month, the fast growing manufacturer introduced the Xiaomi Redmi 2, hardly a flagship model. But Xiaomi's official Weibo page shows a teaser revealing that the company is planning on introducing its new flagship on January 15th.

The social media site quotes Mr. Lei as saying, "There’s no better way to start 2015 than with our newest products." To that end, Xiaomi will be holding an event at the Beijing National Convention Center on January 15 at 2 PM. According to the poster that accompanies this article, Xiaomi says that its next flagship handset will be thinner than the wings of a cicada, which is an insect found in China as well as other regions.

Xiaomi is selling tickets to the January 15th event. 1000 ducats for the press event are being offered at the equivalent of $16 from Xiaomi's Mall app. They will be offered starting at noon (China time) on January 8th.

We still have no idea if the new flagship will be the Xiaomi Mi4S or Xiaomi Mi5. The other day we showed you a poster that allegedly showed an image of the Mi4S with extremely thin bezels. 

It should be very interesting to see what Xiaomi has cooked up for its next flagship. The company is growing like topsy, with smartphone shipments more than rising three fold last year. For many of you, January 15th can't come soon enough!
