Windows-based Samsung Galaxy Book 2 inches closer to release, proving tablets are still hot
Tablets aren’t exactly making a comeback, at least according to the latest Strategy Analytics global shipment report, although companies like Apple, Huawei, and Microsoft have had no problem boosting their Q2 figures on the back of iOS, Android, and Windows devices respectively.
But even though Samsung maintains one of the richest, most diverse tablet portfolios around, its numbers have been steadily declining lately, a trend the chaebol is looking to reverse after the recent launch of the powerful and versatile Galaxy Tab S4.
There’s also a bonkers Galaxy View 2 with a 17.5-inch or so screen in the pipeline, as well as a Windows-based Galaxy Book 2. The latter’s name is not etched in stone yet, but the SM-W737 model number suggests a close relation with the SM-W720, aka 12-inch Samsung Galaxy Book.
The large 2-in-1 computer, along with its little 10.6-inch brother, was formally unveiled way back in February 2017, actually going up for sale stateside a couple of months later.
Curiously, there are no words on a sequel to the smaller, cheaper model yet, while this SM-W737 has just been federally certified in Korea with optional LTE connectivity. A Verizon release sometime in the near future definitely seems possible, although there are obviously no guarantees regarding a commercial rollout outside of Samsung’s homeland... and Russia, where the Galaxy Book 2 was also recently approved by the regional FCC equivalent.
Samsung will once again go after the likes of Microsoft’s Surface Pro family and Apple’s larger iPad Pro whenever the second-gen Galaxy Book hits stores, bundling the convertible Windows 10 tablet by default with a keyboard and S Pen.
