UAL to offer free streaming video in-flight to iOS users
If you're a UAL passenger with an iOS flavored device, you are going to be able to watch certain movies and television series for free starting next month. The airline will have a library of 150 movies and 200 television series to start. The hardware will be first installed in United's Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Boeing 747-400 and some 777-200 aircraft. By the end of the year, the hardware should be in most of UAL's domestic fleet.
Those with an iOS device will first have to download and install the United app from iTunes. The airline also suggests that you recharge your battery before you board a flight. There is no fun in getting into a great movie or television series and finding out that your batteries have let you down.
The app will offer certain controls necessary for viewing video such as start, stop, pause and rewind, and the content is sponsored by the MileagePlus Explorer Card. Certain content will play over the United Portal without requiring the app.
