T-Mobile's HTC One (M8) receives Android 5.0 update

Last Friday, a tweet from Mo Versi told us that T-Mobile customers with the HTC One (M8)would be receiving the Android 5.0 update on February 9th. This morning, one of our loyal readers sent us an image showing us his T-Mobile HTC One (M8) in the progress of downloading the new OS build. The photo reveals that the size of the update is 632.7MB.

Android 5.0 is bringing a new notifications feature for the lock screen, the new "Recent Apps" menu, the Lollipop Material Design, the 64-bit ART compiler (making your apps load faster), Project Volta for better battery life and more. HTC is not including Sense 7.0 with this update, which means you shouldn't expect to see too many changes to HTC's UI.

With the large size of the update, you'll be doing yourself a favor by using a Wi-Fi network when downloading and installing it. And make sure your battery is charged to at least 50% before starting the updating process. The update is sent out in waves, so if you don't receive it today, you might tomorrow. Just keep your eyes peeled because the notification could happen anytime. You can also try to initiate the update manually by going to Settings > System Update > Check New.

Sprint just started updating the HTC One (M7) to Android 5.0 last week. It expects to start the HTC One (M8) update this coming Friday. Verizon's HTC One (M8) owners are in the dark about a possible time frame for the update. The AT&T branded model of the phone recently was updated to Android 4.4.4 so it could be some time before that variant sees Lollipop.

Thanks for the tip "J"!
