Sprint soft launches VoLTE in some US markets
Sprint is trying to come on par with the competition in the United States by finally soft launching VoLTE (voice over LTE) in selected markets. The new service will only be available in 15 cities in the United States, and it will only be compatible with three smartphones at first.
If you're a Sprint customer and live in one of the areas where the carrier plans to greenlight VoLTE, your Calling Plus feature will be replaced by the new service via a software update that will be released in October along with the security patch.
Here are all the cities where Sprint recently introduced VoLTE: Atlanta-Athens, Chicago, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas, Missouri, New York City, Oregon-West Washington, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Francisco Bay, South Bay, Southern Jersey, and Washington DC.
As far as the devices go, Sprint's VoLTE will only work on the Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, and S8 Active, but we can safely assume more devices will be added in the coming months. We're waiting for Sprint to make the move official and let customers know which cities will get VoLTE next and when.
