So far, we’ve been satisfied by Soul Electronics’ line of true wireless earbuds – offering a balance between performance and price. With its latest offering, the Soul Emotion True Wireless Earphones, they’re pushing down barriers because of their aggressive $49.99 cost right from the onset!

With that sub-$50 cost, most people would be apprehensive about the design and construction, but there’s actually nothing to fear because they’re surprisingly well-made. Constructed from plastic, they’re not as ornate or substantial as its previous offerings with the Soul ST-XS and X-Shock, but the Emotion True Wireless Earphones don’t come off cheap. They’re fairly lightweight and offer a decent fit in the ear. Although, they can become loose after a period of time building up a sweat.

With the included battery charging case, we adore the compact size and magnetic connection. It’s just about the same size as the battery charging case for the AirPods! Our only gripe with it is that it leverages a microUSB connection, which at this point, is slowly becoming the minority when it comes to connectivity amongst today’s gadgets. Still, they do provide an additional TWO recharges.

Getting them set up and connected was a breeze, seeing that they’re instantly placed into pairing mode once they’re removed from the case. For something in its price range, we’re pleased by its punchy and robust audio performance. They may still favor the audio in the lower ranges, but the performance is surprisingly good. If there’s one complaint we have, it’s that volume adjustment is solely done through our smartphone – as opposed to the earbuds.

Typically, earbuds in this price range tend to suffer from significant connectivity issues, but we’re happy to report that they’re not too frequent. The range may also be limited, but just as long as they’re within arm’s reach, dropped connections are few and far between. Additionally, the latency isn’t too bad either when watching videos. In our experience, there seems to be a half-second delay between what we see and what we hear, but it’s still better than the out of sync performance we’ve seen in the past with other earbuds.

Seriously, the $50 cost is simply unbelievable. It’s even better knowing that it manages to get the basics covered! If you’re looking for an affordable pair of true wireless earbuds that offer decent audio and connectivity, the Soul Emotion will no doubt get the job done. And it’s better, too, knowing that you’re not spending a huge fortune.
