Samsung's new Smart Glow notification light leaks out on a Galaxy J2 (2016)

With the Galaxy J2 (2016), Samsung is trying a new take on the good ol' LED notification light - an LED ring around the camera, dubbed Smart Glow. It can light up in different colors depending on the caller, the battery charge status, or even be partially illuminated to help you fit your face completely in the frame when doing a selfie with the rear snapper.

The other crazy plans for Smart Glow include weather alerts, and health measurements like heart rate, and so on - Samsung will be betting big on the new idea, it seems. It is test-driving the Smart Glow ring with the J2 at first, and what you are seeing above is the first image of what it will actually look like, not concept renders or schematics in the manual

It's a bit wider than we expected, but we have to see it in action before we pass any judgment over Samsung's rear take on the venerable notification light paradigm.

does anyone think this look not ugly? I mean if it's just a thin line of light, then yes, but this is way too big and UGLY!

its fine if its doubled as LED flashlight (just like motoX) but this one is to huge for notification, and it will be super distracting for your surrounding when it glow up or blinking :-/

Hopefully they'll perfect it and put into better phones, kinda like the alpha than that was perfected to the Note 4, and the C5 came out ALL METAL and that HOPEFULLY will be put on the note 7 or s8

So you'll have to lay your phone flat on its face to see notifications? Bollox..

Looks ugly and unpractical, because you will have to face your phone with back towards to you to see it,notification LED above display is the best thing, you know you got missed something and double tap to see what that is...

Not necessarily impractical. I lay my phone down on it's face all the time at work (I have a case that overhangs the screen, so the glass isn't touching).

what about just putting on the front like in flagship phones??? does it cost that much to put it on the front?

It's on the back so majority will not see it as most put phone on table/desk face up. They better also keep the front led notification.

LG did that on their home button.

Well that is.....certainly unappealing. I was under the impression it was going to be a thin, discreet light...not this ugly thick thing.
