Samsung prepares a slew of clamshells for Sprint PCS

The SprintUsers member r0fl posted some photos of the new lineup of Samsung phones targeted to Sprint PCS and expected to launch soon on their network.

The SPH-A420 has been known for a while now from its FCC documents – a low-end Clamshell with 65k color display and CDMA/AMPS. A420 should replace the A560 in Sprint's lineup.

A420

SPH-A640 is a mid-level phone. A640 has basic functionality and a mediocre VGA camera in a sleek, glossy black clamshell design.

The SPH-A980 is also known as the Combo phone. It is dual-mode phone combining CDMA and WiFi, which makes it VoIP capable. A980 is a clamshell with internal antenna and has 1.3-megapixel with flash on the front shell. Multimedia content can be downloaded via Sprint's high-speed EV-DO network.

SPH-A720 seems to be a music-oriented device. Its whole body is white and on its front shell it has music-dedicated keys below the external display, and a camera with flash above it. From the blurry images, it seems that the A720 is a slim clamshell with flat keypad.

Sprint will not let Verizon get all the hot phones, at least not the Samsung ones. It seems that they are testing their version of the i830 and the A990. The i830 is CDMA/GSM phone already launched with Verizon, while the A990 MEGA3 is 3-megapixel camera phone with swiveling display, EV-DO, Bluetooth and microSD slot.
