OnePlus ditches the invite system, the OnePlus 3 will be available invite-free from launch day

Earlier today, OnePlus spilled the beans and revealed when it's next phone - the OnePlus 3 - will get unveiled. That'd be June 14, at 12:30 PM ET, with the device itself becoming available later that day without an invite.

Wait a minute... Did we actually say invite-free

We did! Carl Pei himself revealed to the OnePlus forum community that the invite system is being ditched for good. The OnePlus 3 will be the first one to get launched without invites, and so will be any other future OnePlus smartphones. Now that's a pretty sweet news for all potential buyers, isn't it?

The upcoming OnePlus flagship will become available from OnePlus' website, OnePlus.net, at 3:00 PM Eastern Time on June 14, just a bit after it becomes officially-official. We have a hunch that it will be available globally from day one, but don't quote us on this!

What's also interesting is that those lucky enough to score a free Loop VR headset will be able to order the device straight from OnePlus' virtual reality shopping center, which is touted as being "the world's first". Oh, and the potential "flagship killer" itself will be unveiled with the help of the oh-so-trendy virtual reality.

Are you getting one?

I did never understand what was the point of this invitation-only system anyway.

It was an experimental system that attempted to avoid all the flaws of pre-ordering (heavy traffic that exceeded server capacity, scalpers, etc.) and to bottle-neck sales so that purchases would not outpace inventory. Oh, and to raise #HYPE

If you think purchases won't outpace inventory, you're fooling yourself. These will be sold out immediately and it'll take weeks before you can actually buy one. It'll be the Nexus 4 all over again. Expect a complete disaster

I said "attempted," did I not? We shall see how OnePlus handles demand without their infamous system. Supposedly they got their parent company OPPO onboard to help with production this time. Though they always seem to screw something else up. I'm hoping third time's the charm.

It will be sold out to create hype, bc they couldn't make as many as before hence the invite system.

...because the OP3 will be pricey. The demand won't be that high.

Was really no biggie IMO, make another inferior and underwhelming device, still won't buy it...make another awesome device like the OnePlus One, my next Smartphone will happily be another OnePlus product.
