OnePlus compares its One to the new HTC One M8: lower price, "no extra logo on front"

OnePlus compares its One to the new HTC One M8: lower price,
The all new HTC One M8 is finally here: HTC CEO Peter Chou himself announced the handset a few hours ago in New York City, and customers can buy the device in the US starting today. We’ve already reviewed the new One, and it turns out that this is quite a nice smartphone. But that won’t stop the competition from trying to tell us that they can make better handsets, right? Right.

Enter OnePlus, a new China-based company that’s getting ready to launch a CyanogenMod-based smartphone called OnePlus One. According to OnePlus, its own One is better than HTC’s M8, because it has a 5.5 inch display with Content-adaptive backlight control (CABC) technology, a six-lens 13MP rear camera, a 3,100 mAh battery, and “no extra logo on front.” Moreover, an unlocked OnePlus One will cost less than $400, while HTC’s new One is priced at $600 - $650 off contract.

Of course, while the OnePlus One looks good on paper, there’s a big problem with it: at the moment, this handset does not exist from a buyer’s point of view. We don't know what it looks like, and it’s not even announced - its official presentation will take place on April 23.

Anyway, what do you think? Can the OnePlus One one up HTC's One M8? Let us know in the comments section below!

"no extra logo on front" they nailed it with that one.

Exactly! Haha.. I'm more excited about the OnePlus than I was with the One.

I love it how easily people get hyped about claimes on paper when they haven't showed us anything, I remember oppo N1 with its great camera claiming it will destroy the competition and at the end it was just an ok camera.

These aren't just mere claims since it's coming from the oem, itself. And they aren't claiming that their phone will blow the M8 out of water. They are just stating that their phone will come with better specs.

Could you imagine if HTC did one? HTC One: Original name. One Plus One: Copycat name. How is it possible that HTC didn't copyright the name "One"? I can't believe HTC hasn't sent Cease and Desist letters to BLU for their BLU Life One and now One Plus for their One. These names are getting stupid and whoever thought naming these new competing phones One was an idiot.

Concept and reality could be far apart. However, I would love to see what One Plus is bringing to the market. Especially the price point of $400, that is attractive right there. I love paying under the average flagship price and getting top spec at the same time. I really hope they have great software support once the phone comes out. That would be my only concern there.

WOOOT :D if that's the case, even after two years, people can still flash their phones freely if they want!! Beside, I don't think I can hold another two years to switch phone again XD Upgrading my 1 year and 4 months old Nexus 4 to the HTC One (M8). I was looking forward to the Z2... but I don't think it's coming out to AT&T at this point.

Do you really think that the htc logo is there without reason? Where should they hide all the hardware connections?

you're smart actually...the design team hasn't found a way to place them differently without compromising the design and funtionality

of course nothing is without a reason. it's just that there are times these reasons are borne out of stupidity, the lack of ingenuity, or plain laziness.

Do you see iPhones, Galaxys and other phones to have so front gaps/bezels like the One?

They wouldn't need to considering their speakers aren't the best in the industry. HTC has a pretty neat excuse for that.

Have you tested the 2013 ONE speakers next to an iphone 5, S4, Z1? Its miles ahead, so clear and generally much much better speakers. If M8 are better, which should be then I dont care for any bezels. Tell me why dont see any flagship from apple and Sony to look like crap, feel cheap in hand like the galaxy's are? Each company has its own reasons. Give it a rest.

If you are interested in speakers so good for you. But usualy people don't listen music on smarthphone speakers. It is about privacy. If you like the One only for the stereo loudspeakers is better for you to buy bluetooth speakers for better sound.

Most people listen to music with headphones.. And if they want to listen with speakers, they always can plug a 3.5mm jack to external speakers. So most people only will use the speakers for notifications and maybe video(youtube).. P.S: One of my friends haves the One(2013) and they are very good, but you can't enjoy music a lot with those speakers..

Big talk for a device that doesn't exist yet. Let you DEVICE do the talking please - spare us the hype!

Have to agree with you. I can count so many companies claiming this and that and when the product was released it was mediocre. The price seems great for those specs, but there are SO MANY other brands with great specs but mediocre experience. HTC's sense is so great and it took HTC years and years to polish it.

You dont have the knowledge or know the history of OnePlus to mock them! Ive been on Official OnePlus forum for over a month have chatted to actual staff employees so i know alot more than you. Sense, touchwiz all come with unremovable bloatware stored on the phone. OnePlus One will come with custom cyanogenmod installed & no bloatware, save your judgement till 23rd april.

That's what we're saying... You got no pictures. No proof more or less... Just vapors to actual fact. So um yeah, put up or shut up is the drift that is implied to them. So save the BS till the 23rd I'd say.

You really have no idea who the Cyanogenmod team is do you? They have spents years porting the newest Android software into almost all phones available. They were the foundation for the development community in alot of ways. They took their custom software where they made it available to the masses free of charge to do whatever you want to do with it just so everybody can have the pure Android experience on almost any phone. They did it as a hobby, yes they are in the boat to make money of course but their main purpose is to provide the ultimate phone without breaking anyones pockets. Given the way they will be releasing the phone they will have a lower COG metric compared to a company such as HTC, Samsung who not only have to make a hefty profit because they are paying some dead weight, taxes, licensing fees, overhead, high dollar exec, multiple execs, not just a handful of them. All of this is to say specs and price are amazing so far. The software support argument should be squashed seeing that Cyanogemod team is over software for this phone. All that is left to know is how the phone actually look. Quite Frankly this will more than likely be my next phone unless the design of the phone is horrific but it doesnt seem like it will be.
