Nokia releases the source code for its Python for S60 Platform to open-source community

Nokia announced that it has agreed to release the source code for its smartphone software platform - the Python for S60 Platform - to the global community of open-source software developers. Python for S60 Platform, which was launched last year, enables programmers, ISVs and businesses to execute Python commands as well as run Python scripts and applications on the widely used S60-based mobile phones. Python is object-oriented programming language that is developed and maintained by a global community of open source developers under the oversight of the Python Software Foundation. Nokia's involvement with the Python open-source community began last year with the release of the Python for S60 software package for free download from its website. The source code will be available on SourceForge.net, which is the largest open-source software development website, providing free hosting to open-source software development projects. The release of the source code aims to encourage further development of the S60 platform.
