Mobile ESPN officially launches

Mobile ESPN, the new mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), targeting sports fans, has gone life. The official launch was on Super Bowl Sunday. Mobile ESPN runs on Sprint's nationwide PCS network. The new MVNO's call plans, which vary from $34.99 for 100 minutes a month to $224.99 for 4000 minutes a month, feature unlimited minutes on nights and weekends, voice mail, and three-way calling. In addition, all plans include the ESPN sports content, which gives subscribers access to news, scores, statistics, headlines, columns, video content, etc. Mobile ESPN is currently available only on the Sanyo MVP phone, but additional handset models are planned to be launched throughout 2006. The Sanyo MVP phone is based on the Sanyo MM-9000. The MVP model sports the same technical features as the MM-9000, but has a different, specially designed black-and-red color as well as a special interface for the Mobile ESPN interactive content. The main features are:

  • dual 262k color TFT displays
  • 1.3 mega pixels camera with flash and video capture
  • EV-DO high-speed data
  • MP3/AAC music player
  • miniSD memory expansion slot
  • built-in speakerphone

 

The Sanyo MVP phone is available for the price of $499.
