Microsoft Lumia 535 helps Windows Phone sales soar 300% in Pakistan; platform tops iOS in the country
According to figures recently released by comScore, Windows Phone lost 21% of its market share in the U.S. between January and April. But there
is one country where Lumia sales are red hot. In this same country, Windows Phone is actually the second most popular mobile operating system and is ahead of iOS. According to Patrick Mercanton, head of marketing for Near-East, North Africa, Levant and Emerging Asia for Microsoft Mobile Devices, Lumia sales in Pakistan tripled from the fourth quarter of 2014 to the first quarter of 2015.

The marketing chief says Microsoft owns more than 50% of the featurephone market in the country, which will help Lumia sales when it comes time for these consumers to move up to a smartphone. Part of the reason for Lumia's surge in Pakistan is the success of the entry-level Microsoft Lumia 535. The model is one of the leading smartphones in Pakistan listed in the $100-$150 price range. It also happens to be the most popular Lumia model of all time in the region.

Microsoft's next focus in Pakistan will be in the B2B market where Lumia handsets can be used in conjunction with Microsoft's many business oriented products. The company will also offer the Microsoft Lumia 430 Dual SIM, which comes with Windows Phone 8.1 and will be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile. The lowest priced Lumia model should help keep the Windows Phone platform remain quite relevant in Pakistan.

Pakistan is not much of a rich country and you say most of the people there have an iPhone you need to shut the f**k up an iPhone is about 700$ or more.

Dude, watch your mouth. When he says every other person here has an iPhone or a top of the line android, he means the city folk. I'm from Peshawar, which is no where near as rich as Karachi and every other person i know has a top end android or an iPhone. Sure majority of the people have cheap phones which cost between $200 and $300 but that doesn't make us a "poor" country.

I don't say that you live in a poor country there is political problem in there I mean that in the countries like USA there is no such rating these numbers he provided was crazy there's a lot of iPhones in my country or city too but 3 out of 5 i don't buy it.

First of all, sorry i came off rude. I guess i misjudged you tone :) Secondly, like i said, in the more developed cities most people do have an iPhone for that status feel. If not 3 out of 5 then atleast 2 out of 5 definitely have iPhones

holy s**t I swear ,smartphones are becoming more like politics , choosing a platform apparently means it's the best of the best perfect and everything else is inferior , yay for freedom. comments about smartphones = rants about riches to religion to insults to IQ whats next ! carrying flags and singing songs. Apparently everyone should buy a smartphone others like. P.S on a side note I really don't know what will happen in the next few years but if Apple continues with the premium model , people will eventually get fed up paying more for a flagship and choose mid-range phones happens in every industry, from Cpus to Gpus to cars , the best selling stuff is eventually affordable stuff like a Camry ,Sonata Geforce 960 or a core i5. eventually the mid-rang stuff will be good enough , it's already happening with Android , in 2015 even a mid-range Android phone is more thane enough unless your into hardcore gaming no reason to pick a flagship anymore.

For those talking about a particular country should know that few bunch of guys do not represent all of nation. Rapists do not represent INDIA. Police killing black do not represent whole America. Terrorists do not represent Pakistan.

Well windows phone are great package. My wife bought lumia 630 a year back and we are quite happy with it. They have nice build, good display and god everyday performance. The best of all is camera. No one offers such quality in their price range. Now they have nice refined UI which is diffent and all essential apps. They are the way to go if you dare to change.

First of all my message to all the haters.I'll not blame you people because you are brain washed by media that always portrays Pakistan as a terrorist country. But you can't realize that we have suffered the most of terrorism.Once OBL was trained & funded by US/CIA. Anyway, Life is too short to hate someone. Coming towards the article, Pakistan is a country where we don't have contract system like in most of iOS lover countries. Here if people want to buy iphone then they have to pay full price or even more than that. Here iphone 6 costs almost 700-750$.

That is surprisingly cheap. I don't mean cheap for everybody. I am more or less referring to some countries having to pay out the equivalent of $800-$1000. It is amazing how much these devices get inflated in a lot of countries. They are starting to move away from subsidized devices in the US. The payment plan system is going into effect at the major carriers. It's almost more responsible to put money aside and buy the device directly and go on a prepaid device plan. Even with expensive devices like iPhone and Galaxy Series, it would be better to go that route nowadays.

Actually this guy's got it wrong. When iPhones are newly launched here, people buy them at the equivalent of $1200-$1500. I'm talking about the super crazy rich fanboys who need it on the first day or they'll die. Comparatively, the Galaxy S6 cost 75k PKR ($750) and the S6 Edge 93k PKR ($930).

Yeah I hear iPhone 6 being sold for prices like 1700-2000$ in my country this is insane even for rich people(they are rich for since some reasons)

Yeah, you are right. Its very expensive during 1st few days of launch. But i'm not talking about launch price of iphone 6 in Pakistan. I'm talking about recent price of iphone 6.

and one more thing there is no warranty for these Iphones like US if your Iphone is having any issues you go to an apple store to get it replaced here you have it for a month or a week and if any thing goes wrong either you have some ome hows going abroad soo you give him the phone soo he can get it replaced from apple store and wait for him to come back or pay crazy amount of money on your phone specially if it like iphone 6 or 6+ im talking about 5,000 to like 20,000 50% to like 200$ to get it fixed from a local expert guy no apple store here currently
